Leave my pie alone

This is not a big deal on the scheme of things but id like to know if iabu.

When dh decides to cook something, he gets on with it and i leave him to it, and am grateful for what I get. It's usually tasty, has its flaws sometimes but I don't criticise as it's the effort and kindness that I appreciate.

I have become the "pie chef" of the household - said as a joke obviously, I'm no chef but i have made a bunch and the family enjoys them.

I said I'd make a shepherd's pie tonight and am about to go and get ingredients. Dh sends me a recipe to use. I didn't ask for it and have my own one. He can't just leave me to get on with it. So I said "thanks, I have a recipe for it", and he said he liked his recipe bc it involves draining the fat. I take this to say he thinks my pie is oily, and I am clearly put out.

Aibu to take it personally?

Tbh, lamb is very fatty…it’ll be better if you drain it.

That said, I’d be replying to your DH with, ‘I’ll leave you to get on with it, then.’ And I would.

Much like I do when DH starts rearranging the dishwasher as I’m stacking it.

Shoxfordian · 22/09/2022 05:12

Dh can make it himself then with his own recipe

A recipe for shepherd's pie? Who needs one?

KangarooKenny · 22/09/2022 06:51

If he wants his recipe, he makes it.

RumJerrySailorRum · 22/09/2022 07:04

Well do you drain the fat??

Nothing worse than mince floating about in its own fat. It's bloody rank.

RainbowSlide · 22/09/2022 08:03

I've drained it, particularly after your responses! I hadn't previously but never found it fatty/oily. But that's not the point..!

My "recipe" is the one in my head by the way..

Thanks for the responses. He had better bloody make a show of enjoying it tonight

I think he’s write about draining lamb mince as it’s very fatty. So maybe take that note and otherwise ignore.

RIGHT

Different couples operate in different ways, but in my relationship I welcome feedback to my cooking. If I'm going to the effort of making dinner, I may as well make something people enjoy, and if there are ways my family feel I can improve then I don't see an issue in suggestions. There is of course a way to do this, but it doesn't sound like your DH was rude. I'd prefer to be told my pie was greasy then make it that way for years only to find out no-one liked it very much.
