Sleeping bag situation

My 2.5 year old moved into a big bed this summer. She is in a small double with rails to protect her from falling out.

All summer I've not really used a sleeping bag, as it was too hot anyway. I would cover her up with a thin blanket and then periodically check on her and cover her back up. But sometimes I wouldn't and it wouldn't be an issue, as it was hot anyway.

Now it's colder. Her room is around 20-21 degrees at night. She always kicks the covers off and never covers herself back up again. It's stressing me out. I'm up all hours covering her up. I've decided to start using a sleeping bag on her but now I'm stressing that she will hurt herself when she inevitably gets out of her bed in the night or in the morning. She often gets out in the night and looks for me. Now she has the sleeping bag on, she won't be able to get out as easily. Getting out isn't that easy anyway. She can only get out from the foot of her bed, as the rail is lower there.

What did you do at this age ?

Mine wore grobags up to the largest size available! Something like 5 years iirc! They didn't fall over, they develop a kind of shuffling walk in them.

I've also tried dressing her in thicker clothes for bed, but still feel she might get cold. I get cold at that temperature with no blanket whatsoever so I assume she would do. I just don't think it's right to sleep all night with zero blanket. Which is what ends up happening if I just leave her in bed with no sleeping bag.

You can get sleeping bags with feet, they're brilliant!!

Mine was starting school when she stopped using her sleeping bag. My mother is four foot ten and she could fit into it. Grin

not so long ago while staying with me overnight I heard 'Nana, Nana' Up I jump, all sleep gone, go into dgs (about 4 at the time) and he says, 'its ok nana, you dont need to help me, I can do it myself now' Grin what a darling!😂He went straight back to sleep of course, all cosy, I did not!

My almost 3 year old has had a duvet since she was about 18 months - I think she worked out how to undo the sleeping bags herself so I switched to the duvet. Her older sister (almost 5) has also had a duvet for years now. If they are cold they will tuck themselves in or complain loudly! Or be like mine and I wake up roasting to discover they have slotted themselves in next to me and are toasty warm! I’m not particularly precious though I think - I grew up in a house with single glazing and no central heating and used to wake up frozen so I reckon with our much warmer house they will be ok most likely.
