Confused.. So when you dress a baby you put a vest on then a top but when do you stop this? I’m still putting a vest on my 18 month old under her jumpers or dresses or whatever. She’s just had a growth spurt so about to go shopping. Do I need to buy new vests? I mean the ones that button up around the nappy. Thanks.

When they learnt to unpop them.

BaileySharp · 21/09/2022 15:33

My 3 Yr old still wears them in winter... I guess it stops when potty training as it would be difficult for them

Pixiedust1234 · 21/09/2022 15:48

I stopped when they were frequently sweaty. I started again when they started shivering.

Hint. Its to do with weather, not age.

I stopped at 9m with my first because he was so hard to dress I just gave up!

Just had to buy vests for my littlest who is now 9m as it’s too cold to go without.

My DS stopped wearing them around 17 months as it was spring and he was potty trained a month ago at 21 months, so he'll be wearing normal vests this winter.

Under-layers? The only time I put under-layers on my babies/toddlers was when we were posted to a very cold country and it was winter….

Popper vests in early spring/autumn/winter until about age 2. Otherwise they don’t wear vests, except one year for a few weeks in the absolute depths of winter when all the windows were open for covid and they worse about a dozen layers.

OlympicProcrastinator · 21/09/2022 20:10

2 years old for me.

VestaTilley · 21/09/2022 20:12

DS is 3 and still in vests on cold days and chilly nights.

I stopped using the vests that button up under their bottoms when he was about 18 months, but he still wears a normal vest now in cooler weather.

I know I bought age 2-3 normal vests before my child turned 2 (think it was the smallest size) because I couldn't be doing with the poppers any more. I'd guess around 20 months. Second child will prob be older just due to the seasons. Wearing a poppered vest until potty training seems really late given half of MN apparently don't potty train til 3 or 3 and a half. I don't think I'd buy them past 12-18m size (which would fit a fair bit longer than that).

Passthecoffee · 21/09/2022 20:17

Always wore popper vests until DCs were potty training and then that's switched over to a normal vest unless it's very very warm in summer so no vests. My older two are back in vests already under their school uniform.

HorribleHerstory · 21/09/2022 21:28

rarely used the popper type vests, reminded me of the ski wear type “bodies” we used to wear as teens. They are a faff and they didn’t fit well over the nappies and the pressure of them on the nappies caused leaks.

coming to think about it never had a non popper vest either

Sceptre86 · 21/09/2022 21:36

Mine wear popper vests until they start potty training, at that point we go to normal vests.
