To think the school shouldn’t have to close for the afternoon

Open evening 5-7, school closes at 12. So students miss two lessons. How would you feel about this?

I’m surprised at the things people get annoyed about. Wouldn’t bother me at all.

Our school is closing early this week for year 6 visitors. My son has been a year 7 for less than 3 weeks but it going back in between 5 and 7 pm to be a guide. I thought this was normal and indeed had the same with my now adult child. Not sure how they're supposed to get organised otherwise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Totally normal, we do the same, takes a while to set up and then we have a break before working until around 9.30pm, then clear up.

Astounded, never happens at out school!

I’d say yanbu because I don’t agree with all the effort and cost put in to showcase - and advertise eg radio etc - each school, as though secondary education will be one long stream of exciting experiments and the like. Presumably it pays off in extra funding if extra students gained but then if all schools are doing/attempting this, aren’t they just all vying for a bigger proportion of that years students, some must lose out… seems a waste of precious budgets to me.

I have two children in high school and haven't ever heard of the school doing this. Do the bus companies come in early to take the children home or do parents have to collect?

Well no, that’s not quite what I was asking, to be honest.

Well, no, let me correct myself. You said setting up doesn't take 3 hours. Maybe not in English.

Those things don’t take three hours though @funtycucker*

DDs primary do this but the open morning is a Saturday.

They close at lunchtime on the Friday before then everyones back in for Saturday school the next day. It's always been done like that though so most of the parents know to expect it and don't mind missing activities as a one off.
