To try to pay for extra school trip spaces

There's a fun Christmas school trip coming up. I've spotted that pupil premium places are discounted but there is still a charge. We are doing OK. Not rich but OK. I feel bad that some other children might not be able to afford the discounted rate, or their families might struggle in the run up to Christmas. Would it be awkward/weird if I messaged the school office and offered to pay for some extra spaces?

That would be extremely kind and not at all weird.

It can’t hurt to ask them, they may have a fund in place already and you could add to the pot.

I did that quite often. It was accepted and just went in to the pot. It's a nice idea I think.

I always did this when DD was at primary, usually paid for her plus 3 others. It all went into the pot and helped to support wider access to trips. The online payment system just allowed you to select how many children you were paying for, regardless of how many children you actually had!

I've done it. Just a quiet word at the office. I suspect it'll become a lot more common.

Kind but for as long as I have dependent children and if I described myself as only “ok” financially - my priority will always be my children. So no - I wouldn’t.

if I was very wealthy and this wouldn’t touch the sides /l- then yes I would

And it’s quite possible your kind offer will end up being an admin burden on the office!

how much were you thinking?

This is my fear...

I think I'd ring the office and offer to pay for a set amount of places that they could allocate based on need.
