Wowcher £12 baby photoshoot? Is it a scam

I am poor, especially since our baby came earlier unexpectedly so I had to get so much in one go. I never expected newborn photoshoots to be as expensive as they are ( understandably as it’s a talent ) but I cannot afford £500 on a photoshoot when I get like £600 a month to survive off, I saw on wowcher they have a £12 photoshoot with 5 prints? scared it’s a scan, what do you think? have you ever done one through wowcher, do I just take a risk and do it?
Advice please xx

just take your own pictures surely?

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/09/2022 19:12

They will get you in and give you the hard sell. The 5 photos you have paid for won't be the best ones. They rely on you seeing the better, costlier ones and not wanting to let them go.

KassandraOfSparta · 19/09/2022 19:12

It won't be a scam. You will get your photoshoot and 5 tiny pictures.

You will also be subjected to a very hard sell of larger pictures costing ££££.

MugginsOverEre · 19/09/2022 19:15

Go and get your free prints. Whilst they won't be the best ones by far, you'll have some photos for £12 and when you don't go for the hard sell and buy loads more the company will get it's comeuppance on being scamming gits.

Againstmachine · 19/09/2022 19:15

You will get the photo and the 5 pics they will try and upgrade you to more, that's where they make the money.

If you refuse the upgrades you will get what you paid for.

I foolishly attended one of these that I 'won' at a school fair and they pretty much told me I was a terrible mother because I didn't want to pay a thousand pounds for a photo of my own children.

And not pretty much. Actually.

Who would want to look at a photo of their kids with that as a memory.

mimifv · 19/09/2022 19:17

I don’t have a camera and my phone quality is far from great x

Don't do it, honestly hou will regret it and be lured into spending ££££

Oysterbabe · 19/09/2022 19:32

Do you anyone who has a decent phone who could take some pictures for you? I think these shoots are awful anyway. Unless you have a burning desire for a picture of your baby stuffed in a basket with a pine cone on its head or some shit.

Lilypickles1 · 19/09/2022 19:34

Same as others said, we did one once and got 1 free photo, the rest were absolutely unaffordable… waste of time

Kevinthesnipe · 19/09/2022 19:35

You can buy disposable cameras in our local max speilman and they include development for £10

LaaDeeDaaa · 19/09/2022 19:37

You must know someone who has a half decent phone.

SequinsandStilettos · 19/09/2022 19:40

I would do it but only take the offer and run off gleefully.
I have, in fact, done that on four occasions. Did a Mothercare one, a TJ Hughes one, a shopping mall one and one of those model type ones, when younger - pissed off the photographers but could not be guilted or flattered into £££
I did get stung on the hospital photographer - blame the hormones. I am finally learning how to say No to school photos and Xmas cards.
It is scandalous what some of them charge.

Not a scam as such, they will take the photos and give you 5 (tiny) prints. They will however book you in to view all the photos they have taken and aggressively pressure you to buy more/bigger, Which can quite unpleasant, especially if your postpartum and emotional already.

Honestly, take baby to max spielmann or similar. They do basic photo shoots for £6, and even there bigger packages are £30-50. In a few months time you will have one nice photo of them at this age, and others as them as they grow. All the other newborn photos will be in a box somewhere.

QuillBill · 19/09/2022 20:22

The ones I got were MASSIVE rather than tiny. Like the stuff of nightmares.

ZXD · 19/09/2022 20:32

Where are you located? There are a lot of photographers just starting out who will do you some lovely pictures for free. They are called "Time for Prints". Basically you get together with a photographer who is trying to create a new portfolio and they will take photos of your little one and give you prints in exchange for you allowing them to show off their photos in their portfolio to then help them get paid work. It is all above board, a lot of models and photographers start out this way. - you are basically helping each other as a photographer would normally have to pay for/get permission from a model (known as a model release). A lot of new photographers hoping to build a portfolio will have a really good camera and lens and be trying very hard to build a name for themselves so you will get some good shots.

These scam photographers should be ashamed of themselves preying on young people with little disposable income.
