To ask my neighbour’sbuilder how long building works are going to last?

Neighbour has gone away while a builder is replacing their bathroom, and other things by the look of it. Work starts almost spot on 8am every day since last Sunday. Drilling, hammering etc - we are the other side of a pair of semis so the noise really carries Sad.

Annoying as it is for me, for my ASD DD it is simply unbearable. AIBU to try and catch builder to ask how many more days he expects it to take?

As long as you ask politely I can't think of a reason not t

This is my life but we are 4 months in now. They said should be done in a year! Exactly same setup, 4 kids, 2 with with ASD in a semi. They start at 7.30 every day (as is allowed in my area) and work all day everyday. Even Saturdays and Sundays, as they are doing the work themselves it is "DIY" so they never stop lol.

Definitely ask

You could also ask them to give you warning of any especially noisy days so you can plan to be out (if that is possible for you)

Chasingsquirrels · 18/09/2022 10:45

How could it possibly be unreasonable to ASK?

It is of course possible that you could behave unreasonably whilst asking, biut the act of asking itself is not an unreasonable one.

It’s a bit rude of your neighbours not to have told you how long they were expecting it to last! If it’s any help, a standard bathroom shouldn’t take longer than 7- 9 days to complete, as long as there are no ‘Glitches’

LimeTwists · 18/09/2022 10:45

Not at all unreasonable - just do it in a really friendly way. ‘I’d love a new bathroom. How many days work is it to put in a new one? Eight? Oh, you must be nearly done then.’ That sort of thing.
Then they can’t tell your neighbour you were asking when this infernal bloody racket will finally end 😁

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 18/09/2022 10:46

No problem asking nicely, so best to ask before you get SO pissed off you're beyond asking nicely.

bloody inconsiderate of your neighbours not to let you know how long the work was expected to take etc

Say what?

No just ask like a normal person.

If he tells the neighbours she asked, so what? They should have told the OP themselves!

No just ask like a normal person.

agree. Not dancing around it - 99% of the misunderstandings that people write about here wouldn't arise if people just used normal words.
