To have found this a bit irritating at work

Hourly paid role, ended this evening at 7pm (we all finished at that time and then night staff came on)
Did a couple of tasks and then at 7:05pm I had my coat and bag on ready to leave. Walked past and one of the supervisors saw me and said, "Excuse me, can you go and do X job?"
She didn't acknowledge the fact that I'd already finished (she also had her coat on ready to go and saw me with mine) didn't apologise for keeping me behind after finishing time or anything or thank me for helping out.
The job only took a couple of minutes, but to complete it I had to go and get something from another room which happened to be near the front door.
I walked towards it and saw this supervisor with another woman whispering and looking at me.
Then the supervisor squawked at me down the corridor "Excuse me, where are you going?!"
I replied that i was going to get the equipment for the job I'd been asked to do and she said "Oh ok, I thought you were leaving!"
Aibu to think she had a bit of a cheek and also shouldn't have shouted after me like that as if I were a naughty child?

It wasn't a job that was specifically on my list, it was a job that literally anyone could have done, including her.

Sounds annoying and rude. YANBU.

Just say no.

”No sorry, I really need to get home to do/see X” and walk towards the exit

Absolutely nothing of consequence will happen. And if they really are so upset they try to make it so, at least you’ll feel vindicated in looking for a new role.

Notateacheranymore · 18/09/2022 00:26

So she could have asked night shift to do it?

I think I would challenge her on it on your next shift, and if she says “but it only took a couple of minutes” ask her why your time is less valuable than anyone else’s that you should be expected to work unpaid when there are other people on shift.

I am salaried but this happens to my hourly rate colleagues often. Managers and some salaried people need to stop taking the piss!!!

Some jobsworth types can get off on ordering people around.
If they are apologetic and chip into help, then no prob.
If there order you to do something and stand there tapping their foot, tell them where to go.
This isn't America, where they think they own you.

And that was the point you should have just said "No I can't. It's already 7:05, my shift finished at 7pm and I'll be late getting home to put my feet up for another commitment if I don't leave now so no, I really can't stay to do X for you. Good night"

You're not wrong to be a bit irritated about being asked, but your answer should have been different. Something along the lines of "I've finished for the day, and can't stay for overtime. See you tomorrow".

Yes I should have said no i said yes as it was helpful for the resident but that was it.. i don't know why she didn't ask night staff to do it.
I said squawked because she literally did shriek *where you going??!!" At me down the corridor
