To call 111 about pregnancy?

Hello

I have found out I'm pregnant and have had 11 miscarriages.

I'm supposed to call the early pregnancy unit that sees me asap to start progesterone and clexane injections as part of my multiple miscarriages protocol but they're not open until Tuesday and the earliest I'd be able to see them is Friday work tues, weds and Thursday.

If I call 111, can they see my medical notes and refer me to an out of hours dr who will be able to prescribe what I need?

My head is scrambled.

I would be going sick or taking unpaid leave on Tues I think. I'm not sure 111 will be able to assist but I don't have any experience .

I hope this is your time. What a dreadful journey you've had.

HappyHamsters · 17/09/2022 13:35

They might, no harm in calling but I would go to EPU on Tuesday. Can you try calling the maternity unit to speak to a doctor or midwife for their advice.

overthinkersanonnymus · 17/09/2022 13:35

Congratulations on your pregnancy @elm26

Just call them. The worse they can say is no and hopefully they'll advise you on where to go. Ridiculous that the EPU is shut till Tuesday!

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 13:36

I have a feeling your out of hours GP would be more helpful, as they would know the set up at your local hospital and could theoretically ring the gynae unit for you and see if you could be seen.

111 are just an advice line aa far as I know, and won’t have access to notes.

AnnaMagnani · 17/09/2022 13:37

111 is usually the only way to access out of hours GP @Luredbyapomegranate

I can't take sick as I'm already on a warning because I spent a week in hospital last month when they thought I had meningitis 😢

Thank you everyone x

I don't think 111 can do much but you could always ask. They can maybe get an out of hours GP to ring you and discuss it. If it doesn't work I would ring EPU first thing on Tuesday and maybe they could send your prescription to a pharmacy so you can get started straight away. Or take the day off sick and go in person.

Good luck!

We called 111 because it was out of hours for the midwife. They ended up sending the blue lights and I felt mortified so was apologising when the ambulance crew said they dont actually have the massive amount of true 'emergencies' to keep them busy so they are a referell service written into their role.
Call them, hopefully they can help.

Pregnancy related sickness absence cannot be counted for disciplinary purposes, so you absolutely can take sick leave for this!

idontthinksodou · 17/09/2022 13:48

Yes call them, they can put you in touch with the GP hub, basically out of hours GPs, I used them last weekend

Cattoes · 17/09/2022 13:51

As a side note, when you've headspace, would be wise to join a Union because they will help you if you have any problems with having to take days off. It's the law that you be able to take time off to attend midwifery / consultant appointments.
Good luck, thinking of you

Wtf! Surely they can not put you on a warning for that?! Take that further.

Also anything pregnancy related they really can't punish you over and if they did, they'd be very very stupid as you have so many rights and are protected whilst pregnant. It'd be a very stupid move on their part.

Phone 111 and they will get an OOF GP to phone you back.

Congratulations and I'm sorry to hear what's happened previously x

OOH*

negomi90 · 17/09/2022 13:56

They can't discipline you over pregnancy related things. Go Tuesday, tell work you have a pregnancy related appointment so that they know they can't do anything.

Take your sick leave please.

1FootInTheRave · 17/09/2022 14:30

Could you speak to your local epu?

Re sickness absence, pregnancy related cannot be used towards disciplinary procedures.

Good luck

Jeds55 · 17/09/2022 14:57

I had a similar issue where found out I was pregnant early on a Sunday and needed the progesterone straight away but nowhere open until the Monday. In the end I paid for a private GP appt who wouldn't prescribe them anyway until they'd spoken with my old EPU on the Monday (I'd just moved to new area which complicated things). So I ended up paying a fortune for the private prescription and not getting them until when I would have if I'd waited for my GP anyway.
Sorry not much help but just to say I understand the urgency of this and maybe you'd have better luck with a private GP if that's an option for you. Maybe worth a Google ro see if you can find out what they'd prescribe. I really hope it works out for you.
