Could I have part of a sweet in my lung?

I feel a bit silly posting this but I was eating sweets in bed last night (stupid I know) and it felt like part of a jelly sweet 'went down the wrong way' and I didn't cough it up even though I tried. Is there any chance it just felt like it went down wrong? Is there any chance it could actually be in my lung - has this ever happened to anyone? I'd feel really daft going to A&E and wasting time so I wondered if this had ever happened to anyone. I'm not struggling to breath but I do feel an unusual sensation.

I’d say it’s very unlikely it’s got into the lung as it’s quite a long way and quite narrow. It should work itself out if it hasn’t already and the discomfort is probably related to irritation from it going the wrong way. If your breathing’s ok then I’d say doesn’t need a&e but monitor it and see your gp if any changes. I am not medically trained though so this is not professional advice!

Where are you feeling the unusual sensation? In your throat or in your chest?

i suffer from Dysphagia & I often get food stuck in the swallow tube. It will often feel like it’s still there even after it’s cleared which is likely to be psychological caused by a hyper awareness of my throat. If you think it’s in the throat, yoghurt is an excellent “transport” food which will help take stuck food down. Iced water also stimulates the swallow reflex. If there’s any chance you have inhaled it into the lung then I’m afraid I’m clueless about that process. Hope you feel more comfortable soon OP.

I meant to add: even if something is stuck, if you’re breathing normally then you are fine.

Sometimes the stick fee,ing is a spasm from where you coughed it away. Ds was once convinced a pill had gone down the wrong way but the feeling passed and he was fine.

Thanks everyone! The strange sensation is still there - I can't quite place its whereabouts but it similar to what I've felt before when I've swallowed a large pill and can still feel it in my throat for ages afterwards - just in a lower place! Breathing is normal though so I should make it through another night!

It is possible but I doubt that you would feel it in your lung. My mother coughed/sneezed and inhaled a piece of ground beef (mince) into her lung. It was found in an x-ray, but it was so small that nothing was done about it.

Yes it is possible, but the feeling describing sounds more like your throat?
