So my 2 year old seemed to hurt his arm on the slide today at the play centre. He has held it funny ever since. As soon as it happened I took him straight to A&E as I thought it was pulled elbow (he has had this before and was acting very similar), nurse triaged him and said it wasn’t pulled elbow and off we went. Since we got home he has been holding it funny again and saying “arm hurt”. I don’t feel satisfied at all and think I need to do something else, I don’t want to go back to A&E so is 111 an option?

111 can’t do anything other than advise you to go back to A and E/see other medical professional. I would just set off now.

Yes I’m going back

This happened to my 3 year old, make sure they press all the way up and down the arm. My DC was complaining near the wrist joint but it was actually broken near the elbow. It’s common with little kids they said as their nerves aren’t as developed to complain about pain in one area
but it’s actually higher/ lower up the injury

Luthor · 16/09/2022 21:44

It was pulled elbow again

To be fair he seemed ok at the time, was moving it etc but I left the hospital not completely sure it was resolved, I’m happy it is sorted now. Would you honestly complain?

No I wouldn't complain. Pulled elbow is very common in toddlers, no need for x rays etc.

worriedandannoyed · 16/09/2022 23:58

Did they show you the manoeuvre to put it back? My daughter had this and the first nurse showed us, it saved a few more hospital trips as once they've done it once they're likely to do it again.

Raise it will PALS. Problems need to be flagged to prevent them
reoccurring. It’s not like your suing them.

I would prefer not to do it, I heard the click it was awful, I don’t handle things like that very well.

It was partly my fault as I let him go home even though I wasn’t 100% sure it was back to normal.
