To be fed up of the cat?

I know I’ll probably get a flaming here but our cat is really getting to me. I have to say here, the cat isn’t ill treated (and won’t ever be) and has a lovely warm home, big garden to hunt mice and laze around in, he has a great life.

But he never stops eating. Ever. As soon as he polishes one bowl off he follows you around everywhere, thundering to the kitchen in anticipation of food as soon as you stir.

He shits in the bedroom. We have to lock him downstairs overnight and he miaows and keeps everyone up. Even if you just put him out his miaowing still wakes you. Then in the morning he starts miaowing again at about 5. It’s really getting to me now!

Like I say, don’t get me wrong, he isn’t badly treated but AIBU to not be enjoying him at all?

I second the thyroid. Get him vet checked

Yes - has flea and worm treatment every month. Trust me, this is not a poorly treated cat!

People saying he needs a vet because he wants to eat wet food constantly is as daft as saying my kids need to see a doctor because they’d live on crisps and yoghurt if permitted.

@luckylavender That would be reasonable if I posted saying ‘please advise me about my cat’. I didn’t. I posted because some days, he really pisses me off. The extent of this is sometimes swearing at him under my breath.

At the moment, the ill treated moggy is sprawled out on my bed, fast asleep.

I dont think you're capable of owning animals! Poor cat, I feel very sorry for him, you're an ignorant owner

Another vote to seek advice from a vet.

In the meantime, you could put more litter trays around, give him access outside with a cat flap and a puzzle bowl/ball to work for his food.

I volunteer with a cat rescue. Constant meowing and noise making is a sign of hyper thyroidism. He needs a vet check! 100%, get your head out the sand.

Maybe he's thirsty? Next time he's meyating for food, put the tap on and pop him up by the sink.

YABVU. He is a prince, you are his slave. Be grateful to share a patch of earth with him. Now get back to cleaning his litter!😂

Animal behaviour consultant here (yes really)...

Toileting in places other than the litter tray, constantly asking for food whilst at the same time refusing other foods - these are both signs of something wrong.

It may be veterinary, it may be behavioural, but it is an indicator something is wrong, however much you don't want to hear that.

Yes, you can find countless other people whose cats do this, have always done this who swear blind that this is normal behaviour for cats - it isn't, the problem is that a huge number of cats are exhibiting abnormal, maladaptive behaviours and their owners assume its normal for cats and won't speak to a vet or get a cat behaviourist out.

pooing in a room you are locked in all day IS normal for a cat - as is then returning to that place

not eating dry food - my vet advised starving my boy - that'll make him eat it - it didn't he can't stand the stuff - even dreamies - he only eats wet food - not ill - certainly very food orientated - but in fine health
