To not want to hear any pretence again that the BBC are 'impartial'?

I can understand why they're pro-monarchy and royalist (let's face it the BBC are as pro-establishment as it gets) but the fawning is never ending and they'd never countenance an alternative view. Isn't their charter bound by impartiality?

The BBC are as biased as GB News or any other political channel when they want to be.

I agree.

their news coverage at the moment is massively unbalanced

ChrisTrepidation · 15/09/2022 21:34

Anybody claiming the BBC are unbiased are willfully blind. They couldn't be any deeper in the establishments pockets.

SnackSizeRaisin · 15/09/2022 21:35

Nearly all their staff are private school educated, from middle class wealthy backgrounds. They may be left wing in some ways but economically rich people support other rich people. I don't think they can help it really.

WahWahWahs · 15/09/2022 21:37

Watch the documentary series ‘Days that shook the BBC’ - v interesting insight into its struggle to stay independent, for whatever reason

ExecutiveStrategyCoordinator · 15/09/2022 21:37

Definitely biased.
I cottoned on quite how bad during Indy Ref when I saw their reporting not reflecting things on the ground.
Biased reporting around Corbyn was blatant.

They are the establishment mouthpiece. Zero impartiality. I never watch it.

NeedWineNow · 15/09/2022 21:39

I have never thought that the BBC are impartial and have always seen them as saying what the government want them to say. This was particularly brought home to me during the Covid crisis when I thought a lot of their coverage was nothing short of shameful.

Notlosinganyweight · 15/09/2022 21:40

I have moved away from using BBC for news because of this, most news media infact. You get a biased watered down view of things, amongst loads of other shit that most people don't really care about.

One of the things that pissed me off recently about the BBC is them reporting house asking prices going up year on year. Yes it looks like that year on year because it was crazy this time last year. They have actually been dropping in the last few months and are most likely going to continue that way. Very irresponsible and shoddy reporting, and this made me think they are not impartial snd have an agenda.

VladmirsPoutine · 15/09/2022 21:41

Yes but I don't think the royal coverage is what gave the game away. What riles me is not so much their clearly partisan positioning, it's more that they genuinely believe in all earnest that they are balanced - and the yardstick of balance is akin to platforming both sides of each and every argument.

Person 1: "I think BBQing Labrador Retrievers should be illegal."
Person 2: "I think I should have the right to eat anything I want and anyone who says otherwise is facist."
BBC: "Join us at 8pm for our heated discussion! Loved family companion or just the perfect addition to a Summer's BBQ."

GreenTeaPingPong · 15/09/2022 21:53

It's the British Broadcasting Corporation, of course they're going to cover the events surrounding the death of the British head of state and longest serving monarch, as well as the succession of the next head of state. It would be very odd if they didn't. Yes they are part of the Establishment. But they're still politically impartial. They have covered the issue of anti-monarchists being prevented from protesting, and free speech. They even featured an interview with one.

There has been too much coverage for my taste, but you only have to look at the number of threads on here, as well as what's in all the papers and other news channels (and the thousands of people queuing in London and other cities), to see that it's what people are interested in. If they were right wing, they would have given more prominence to Truss's huge announcement re freezing fuels bills, which she's gambled billions of pounds on making her popular, and which has unfortunately for her been totally eclipsed by recent events.

It's a liberal organisation in some ways rather than a left wing one (which is why it's typically disliked by the right), but it's pro-establishment to the core (which is why it's disliked by the left).

I was shocked when I read about how the woman who “broke” the jimmybsavilw story was basically sidelined at the bbc and treated appalling. Can’t remember the details now. But I was truly appalled.

I think it’s a massively dodgy and corrupt organisation.

I also think that it is going to be massively diminished much sooner than it realises as people will more and more not pay the license fee given other streamlining services.

I also recall being shocked reading about all the single mothers who go to jail for not paying the license fee.

mynamesnotsam · 15/09/2022 22:07

Quite an interesting topic for debate on radio 4 on the day after the funeral

Interesting you talk about "biased reporting around Corbyn" - I have no particular opinions about Corbyn either way, but the right wing.press we're merciless about Corbyn, far more so than they have been about Boris, who behaved far far worse than Corbyn ever did.

The problem with this country is that there are more right wing papers who are in the pockets (or owned by) the Murdochs et al. and in whose interest it is to have a right wing government. Which is why their reporting is so one sided.

The BBC may be slightly left leaning, but for me it balances out the very heavy right leaning press we have in general. Most if which is gutter press, designed to invoke rage and uproar by the masses by using provocative headlines.

Give me the BBC any day of the week.

StoneofDestiny · 15/09/2022 23:05

Stoped watching BBC news long ago - a much more balance news is on Channel 4 at 7pm.
The grovelling tosh about the monarchy on the bbc website is enough to put you off. Reading it you'd think the whole country were monarchists.
About time they did an in depth analysis of the cost of the last couple of weeks - and how much the NHS would have benefitted if that money came their way.

Yes - the bias during Indy Ref was appalling.

Oinkypig · 15/09/2022 23:14

Totally not independent but also just shit biased reporting in everything that people believe. I’ve been in a very small regional story that has a few articles/episodes and what was reported not on it had no basis in reality but also most was linking things that had literally no connection to the actual story (that had little relation to what actually happened) to make it all but more dramatic. Being wary of media anyway I was shocked at what was reported as fact compared with what was true.

I’m not that all MSM is lies and social media is the truth just that it’s all bollocks.

I had many people say I should sue or complain but I didn’t have a spare £££££££ down the back of the sofa and it wasn’t that bad as such, just wrong so 🤷‍♀️

Oinkypig · 15/09/2022 23:15

Stray “not” there oh for an edit button….

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/09/2022 23:16

Would on earth would ‘an alternative view’ on the Queen’s death look like? “10 reasons why it’s a good thing the Queen died”?

Ahf22 · 15/09/2022 23:19

How many of you on this thread are paying the licence fee? Or eager to point out how it’s “worth it” just for “blah”.

Whatsthepointofmosquitos · 15/09/2022 23:20

OMG the BBC is driving me crazy.

WHERE IS THE ACTUAL NEWS?!

You know, the new stuff? Queen’s been dead a week. Something else must have happened. I’m reading CNN and Indian Express to try to work out what’s going on in the world.

Weefreetiffany · 15/09/2022 23:23

They’re so pro establishment yet the far right press (garners in chief) are always bleating about how lefty they are! The daily mail is worse by a long shot

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 15/09/2022 23:24

Maybe in October we will be givsn 10 days of intensive solid Republican content "for balance"

PassMeThePineapple · 15/09/2022 23:25

I used to like BBC News, but since that tory donor guy became Chair of the BBC they are really biased in favour of the government and don't hold them to account at all. I stopped reading the BBC news website

RoseAndRose · 15/09/2022 23:25

If you think their level of coverage is excessive, don't turn over to (non publicly funded) broadcasters such as ITV (much the same) or SKY (considerably more extensive)
