to not want to pay nursery fees when it's closed?

Nursery is closing on Monday, as many are. I have emailed Head Office to ask if the fees for that day will be taken off next month's invoice but it has been met by stony silence so far, and I am expecting an email saying no at some point.

AIBU to not want to pay nursery fees when it's closed? How are other nurseries handling this?

For those who's asking if OP gets paid by their employer for bank holidays - it is not relevant at all. If you are an employee, you are entitled to a minimum of 28 days of paid annual leave, and your employer does not have to give you more. If your contract states you have more leave, then this is what you are entitled to.
Now that Monday is bank holiday, it may be that business stay closed, but these businesses do not have to give an additional day off to their employees. They can tell them to use on of their annual leave days for Monday. Our company has given us the extra paid day off, but they were not legally required to do so.
As for paying nursery for bank holidays, I don't really pay attention to it. Our nursery charges us a monthly fee - they calculate the number of days my DC will attend the year and they divide it by 12. The could tell us they do not charge us for bank holidays, but the same time they could increase the daily fee, so at the end of the day, we would pay the same. Nurseries have their costs, and they need to pay for the annual leaves for their own employees. but they also need to pay rent / mortgage etc, and they may give extra paid day off for the nursery employees.
And really, like others have said, it's a very rare occurence that any business is presented by an extra bank holiday with such little notice. OP, you don't pay more for the month that you expected originally, so you are not worse off.
(It has just reminded me that we have not received official communication that our nursery will be closed - strictly speaking they don't have to - but I'm assuming they are.)

I meant to say 28 days includes the 8 bank holidays if you get paid day off on bank holidays. But companies can ask you to take your annual leave on different days, and work on bank holidays.

Childminders don't get sick.pay or holiday pay because they are self employed. Self employed people pay less tax . And are free to set their rates to build in enough to cover holidays. They can buy sickness insurance if they choose. Or are free seek employment. It's a choice - no one is forced to be a child minder
