To fear NHS maternity care

I am pregnant and my local hospital maternity ward has been voted 'unsafe' and 'inadequate'.
I have left 3x messages for them to arrange my first midwife appointment over the last 7 days, and I'm waiting on them getting back to me.
So far I'm not exactly reassured this is going to be OK...
Has anyone paid for a private midwife or pregnancy care? Or is there anyway around this?
I can't really afford it, what with the time off work coming up, but the situation is making me anxious.
P.S. I'm not interested in hearing how understaffed the NHS are, that's obvious, I'm only interested in hearing practical solutions to get the best care for myself and my baby.

@MrsmrsmrsS mine charged 1200£ . This included 2 appts antenatally where went over the previous very traumatic birth and a plan for the birth . Also she was on call from 36 week pregnant and I could message her any time. She was there for the birth and two visits after the birth.

Since then I have found a couple other doulas who charged about 800£ for my friends and included ante and post natal massages so I would say look at the doula website and call as many as you can as the services offered and charges do vary.

also I would recommend the positive birth company hypnobirthing course. Hope it all goes really well for you.

My nearest maternity hospital has been rated inadequate recently so was worried at first. However, I think once they've been rated inadequate they have to put extra protocols in place so it does seem like they are really trying. The hospital itself is a bit rundown and not the nicest, but I cannot fault the staff. My midwife, sonographers, fetomaternal consultant, have all been lovely and very thorough. Everything's been explained to me well and I've been offered extra scans for different reasons. I've had a trainee midwife in one of my appointments and a trainee sonographer and so I have witnessed them being mentored and trained, and it was really good in my opinion. I can't comment on the labour ward yet though!

Im booked to deliver at the Countess. I was also concerned when I read the headlines of the cqc report but the full thing was much more reassuring. Patients said they got food and pain relief at appropriate times. They were marked down on management things that, whilst I’d like them to do better, are unlikely to be as relevant as if it’d said that the midwives were uncaring.
Part of me also feels that it being a recently graded ‘Inadequate’ Trust means that they are currently very focused on improving things and getting it right, rather than a Trust that might have an older rating of ‘Good’ that’s now coasting or declining.
