Mild cold, nursery or hospital?

Not quite as ridiculous as the title sounds, I hope. 3 year old has a cold, snotty and sleepy but no temperature. Due at nursery 8-2 tomorrow. Which I think is a rather long day when they're not feeling 100% and would rather keep home for some cuddles and naps. However 8 year old has a hospital appointment tomorrow, I really don't want to rearrange. If I keep 3 year old home, they will have to come with us to the appointment and potentially spread germs around hospital. If I send 3yo to nursery there's a chance they'll develope a temp and nursery will call to collect while I'm an hour away at the hospital. Yabu: Send 3 year old to nursery, it's just snot. Yanbu: Keep three year old home and take them with you.

As long as it isn't actually covid (have you tested?) then I would dose up and send them to the nursery rather than take them to the hospital. If it's covid I'd keep away from both.

Send them to nursery - and pick up early, if possible, once you're back from the hospital appt

Definitely not COVID we've all tested (and will again tomorrow morning)
I'm a big softie when they're ill.

Send to nursery, take your other child to hospital. If they call when you're there for pick up then just say i'm an hour away at an appointment will be there as soon as i can...they won't turf him out!

My son was similar this morning - just very cuddly, sleepy, not quite himself. But no temp etc and i had something important at work so i've sent him in. He's 2 and goes 8-6. When i dropped him off i just mentioned he wasn't quite himself and they said that a lot of them had coughs and colds at the moment and he'd probably be ok!

As long as they don't have a fever, I don't think you have to keep them home. Is there someone else who could pick the 3-year-old up if they develop a fever while at school?

If he isn't going to take a day off and deal with it, he can fuck off with his opinions. Also, is it really worse to spread germs at nursery than in a hospital? I don't think so, personally.

I suppose if your older child's hospital appointment is just something really routine, like a regular yearly check up they have for a stable health condition or something, you could try and rearrange - but it sounds like you're keen for them to get seen so I'm guessing it's not something like that. I would be inclined to send the little one to nursery.

If kids stayed off nursery for every runny nose they'd barely ever be in over the winter.

Nursery for the wee one with an early pick-up as PP suggested. Ex gets no opinion if it's not his contact day and he's not going to be helpful.

I'd be responding to that that if he has nothing helpful to offer he can fuck off.

If he doesn't want the child to go to nursery he can either take the eldest or look after the youngest.

I'd send them in. It's September. Everyone is going to get freshers flu soon.

By the time we get back from hospital it will be pick up time so no early pick up, I could do a late start though?
Will probably just see how it goes tonight, could have perked up a lot by tomorrow.

Send the little one to nursery, they will look after him and he can have quiet time jn the corner or a nap if that is all he wants. Otherwise it would be a stressful day for him being dragged around the hospital, in and out of the car, having to sit on a chair and be quiet and well behaved etc.

i was conservative with keeping home from nursery, both because I had that option and because of how disease impacts my household.

I would send the child to nursery. You aren’t violating any guidelines.

Child will be happier at nursery than at hospital, even with a cold.

just don’t do the thing where the child has a fever and you give medication to get it down long enough to do drop off.

Other option, alternative childcare but if that can't happen, nursery!

Geezo if I kept my toddler home from nursery every time she had a cold and a bit of snot she would be off ever other week and I would be unemployed. Send to nursery, the distraction will probably do her good.
