I know this should really be in style & beauty or green living but ... Slow boards

Akt. It smells so good I've stopped wearing perfume, and it's more effective than my old antiperspirant. I left my tube downstairs last week and used DD's Dove for a few days and really noticed the difference.

newtb · 13/09/2022 21:01

I use a rock salt one, pierre d'alun in French.

PineForestsAndSunshine · 13/09/2022 21:06

Those who've found success with natural deodorants, can I please ask you whether you produce less sweat less over time? I end up with visible wet patches under my arms from normal activities like walking the dog and unloading shopping. This happens even when I stick to clothing with natural fibres.

Does there exist such a thing as a less-harmful antiperspirant, or all they all equally bad?

Sparkletastic · 13/09/2022 21:14

AKT. Smells incredible too.

Sweet Pitti by Drunk Elephant also worked but I developed a massive allergic reaction after using it for a month or so

Fuckingfuckssake · 13/09/2022 21:18

I've just ordered from Fussy today, Parma Violet, it's not here yet so I can't feedback but they have a referral scheme which gives you a free case, if anyone wants it then pm me for a code.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/09/2022 21:18

my brother swears wild does

Kenworthington · 13/09/2022 21:21

I like the ‘scrubber’ ones

SkankingWombat · 13/09/2022 21:24

I use tea tree Dr Organic, although I often don't even bother with that as it is rarely needed. On hot days when I'm particularly active and get a bit of a smell starting I use a Lush deodorant powder which solves the problem.

I tried Wild earlier this year as it looked like it might cope better with the hot active days and I like the reusable packaging. I was really disappointed. I know they say there might be a period of smelliness whilst your body adapts, but I wasn't switching from daily use of hardcore antiperspirant, my body was well used to coping with both sweat and hippy deodorants. The pong just got gradually worse and worse until I gave up about 6 weeks in having reached 'unwashed sweaty hormonal teenager' levels of stink. It took several weeks to return to my normal/natural (lack of) smell too once I'd reverted, having also made sure all of my tops had been through a 60 degree wash because the BO smell had impregnated itself into them too.

I've found the best thing for using natural deodorant (I use Kutis) is using antibacterial hand gel on my armpits before I apply it, to get rid of anything causing smells

ShandaLear · 13/09/2022 21:29

The solid Salt of the Earth is brilliant. I’ve had mine for over a year now, using it every day, and it’s still going strong. The trick is to apply it to very wet skin. It’s counterintuitive, but the wetter the skin is the better it works. I use it as soon as I get out of the shower before I start drying myself.

PianoHouseBanger · 13/09/2022 21:32

I came across a brand called Humble, in TK Maxx. They work really well. No smell, but will still sweat.

Mahanii · 13/09/2022 21:37

Scrubbingtons pit stop is amazing. It's advertised as being for kids but it works on my stinky pits!

Chilli81 · 13/09/2022 21:46

The natural deodorant co. You can get it online at Holland and Barratt. So good. I used to get extra strong antiperspirants but switched to this which is 100 times better and never smell now.

Yes you do sweat less after a while in my experience. Antiperspirants are trying to block your bodies ability to sweat so your body is working harder to overcome this. Give it a go for even a week and you should start to see a difference.

JaneLC · 13/09/2022 22:41

nuud is excellent, 10 out of 10 for sure, highly recommend. I've used it for years now.

ginghamstarfish · 13/09/2022 22:47

I tried both Fussy and Wild and not impressed with either. Back to Mitchum.

GyozaGuiting · 13/09/2022 22:51

I thought Wild was rubbish, very expensive (£6 for less than a months use) it was itchy and didn’t work. Also left terrible marks on clothes.
I wanted to love it as the concept is great.

Beansprout30 · 13/09/2022 22:55

I use a deodorant from Tropic and it’s the best I’ve tried. It’s expensive but love the fact it’s all clean and natural ingredients

CrappyJob · 14/09/2022 05:00

Do not bother with Neal's yard deodorant. I'm pretty sure they are just relying on essential oils for effectiveness and it just doesn't work.

Nuud on the other hand is the best one I've tried. (I've tried a few).

Thanks Bumbledeedum. I used natural deodorants throughout winter 2019/20, but I did apply antiperspirant on odd days when I knew I'd be getting hot and sweaty, so it may have been that I didn't go a complete week at any point.

I think I'm just an extra sweaty person!

FolornLawn · 14/09/2022 10:10

AKT works really well, and it comes in an aluminium tube.

Westfacing · 14/09/2022 10:15

It doesn't claim to be natural, but I bought Sanex dermo 0% zinc only because it was on BOGOF offer - it's useless and I'm not a particularly sweaty person.

DogandMog · 14/09/2022 10:17

Just plain bicarb, though sometimes I add a few drops of lavender oil. Shake onto a damp bit of cloth & apply to pits.

GlitterB0mb · 14/09/2022 10:18

None of them work for me and I've tried. I think it depends on an individual's body chemistry. If you don't massively need commercial antiperspirants you may find that the natural deodorants work.

BCBird · 14/09/2022 10:29

I find that after 18months for some strange reason my deodorant stops being as effective. I am currently using one called Fussy. Am.quite pleased with it.
