AIBU?

To stop forward forwarding mail after 2.5 years?

LollipopLady123 · 13/09/2022 15:32

We’ve lived in our house 2.5 years now. Would you still be forwarding mail to the previous occupiers? I’d say we get a couple of items a month on average.

Am I being unreasonable?

Recipient not known at this address.
Return to sender.

Whichever of these is acceptable, and then back into the post box.

Forward the last batch with a note on each envelope that states this is the final one you'll do for them and all additional mail arriving will be returned to sender.

Cheeky fuckers.

I cant believe you've done it for so long! Definitely time to put them back in the postbox

If they want their mail they can pay for a redirection. You forwarding it on is saving them money.

Chuck it back in the postbox with the address crossed out and 'not at this address'. After 3 years it will get slung in the paper recycling.

Yes, I would. You are very patient, I would say 6 months at a push depending on the amount of letters. Couple of items per month is too much.
I put “recipient is not know at this address” and put in the postbox on the way to town. Job done.

"Not known at this address" doesn't stop the post coming, unfortunately. But stop forwarding it - they might not even be at the forwarding address any more - and anything important-looking return to sender. I've been getting someone's nectar points statements for 16 years.

I'd have stopped long ago tbh.

We still get mail almost every day for the previous owners. It drives me mad. If it was clearly junk I'd just bin it but a lot of it is bank-related. Yesterday a parking fine came through for the son!

I put 'moved in 2021, return to sender' on envelope and bung it back in the post box...when I can be bothered, which is less and less often now. Lazy arses.

We set up a 12-month redirection and asked the new owner if they would be kind enough to forward anything that slipped through the net (we receive some items only annually so it wouldn' be immediately obvious if we had forgotten something).
I think 12-18 months is ample, if you are still getting regular post after all this time then they are being CF's. I think you have been too generous and should stop now. Return to sender.

You’ve been v kind. Make a pile and return to sender when you can be bothered.

Return to sender and repost it. How do you know they haven't moved from the other address? There could be three of you in this chain forwarding it on 😂

The only time I opened the post was after three years of return to sender that was from an insurance company as it seemed weird of them not to stop. It was for a huge payout for a disabled son. So glad I called the company instead of binning the letter.

Stop forwarding it. The person I exchanged with kept getting letters sent to me and asking me if he could collect them. I said no and started returning to sender after a few incidents. 2 years after he moved I was waiting for a CRB check to turn up and when I opened it there was a whole string of serious offences on it I had no idea of, then I realized it wasn't my name and I'd opened it not realising it was for him. He then contacted me asking if any post had arrived for him. I said no so he then got another copy sent to my address without asking then asked if he could collect it. I told him he shouldn't still be getting stuff sent to me after 2 years and he made excuses they sent it to the wrong address. I forwarded to him then blocked him. I then started getting fines turning up for him for dentistry he wasn't entitled to on the NHS. The guy was an absolute piss taker. I remember straight after the mutual exchange he kept contacting me when he wanted repairs done like he thought I was a private landlord. After 5 years I started getting letters from the NHS because he was still registered at my address so I sent them back.

I wouldn't have done it for 2.5 days. Not in a million years would I have done it for 2.5 YEARS. Surely more or less everyone they know has their new address now? Confused

I got so sick of writing ‘return to sender, not known at this address’ that I got a stamp made. With big, red lettering. It’s very satisfying stamping letters and dumping them back in the post box.

We collected a couple of weeks worth of post and gave it to the EA as we didn’t have the sellers new address. After that we put it back into the mail with Return to Sender. We’ve lived here 2 years and now I just throw their mail away. Threw a birthday card out today

I do if it's personal mail but the old owners live round the corner. They say that the people still sending cards to their old address have been given the new one multiple times. To be fair you can't control what your contacts do, the old owners are not lazy or cheeky

Yes, definitely stop forwarding it. You're a better person than most for doing it this long.
I used to return to sender but now after 5 years I bin it.

I have been doing that for downstairs neighbour who moved five years ago and whose bank statements STILL get delivered here. Now I bin 'em.

After 3 months, I bought myself a big black marker pen and started writing GONE AWAY on everything that wasn't for me. It all stopped after six months.
