Just read there was a clapping for the Queen last night on peoples doorsteps.

Never heard anyone round here did anyone clap in their road?

Our local 'newspaper' said we were to do this. I didn't -i was out.

Whatthechicken · 13/09/2022 14:28

@Pootles34 haha, our school did something similar. They only included ‘time sensitive’ stuff (the two bits of info that were in it were from other organisations) ‘as a mark of respect ‘. I’d think better of them if they’d have just said ‘sorry, it’s been a busy week, full newsletter will come next week’.

Clapping for the Queen last night
HouseOfGuineas · 13/09/2022 14:31

Didn’t hear anything about it. Doorstep clapping has got be alone of the weirdest representations of respect, encouragement or whatever other sentiment it’s meant to convey.

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 14:34

Ffs aren't we done with the shit virus signalling clapping? Certainly wasn't any here and I haven't seen anything about it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/09/2022 14:40

No. Not around here. Some do have flags at half mast, (upside down) but that’s it.
The two minute silence on Sunday may get observed.

allinonenight · 13/09/2022 14:41

I had 2 neighbours stood outside clapping, I have to say I didn't join in but assumed that was what it was for!

Sparklingbrook · 13/09/2022 14:43

Why are we having a silence on Sunday? Why not Monday on the day of the funeral?

FourChimneys · 13/09/2022 14:44

I thought it was 8 pm this coming Sunday?

Tempted to open a window and play Dancing Queen as an alternative.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 13/09/2022 14:47

@@Sparklingbrook no idea. I would have thought it would be during the funeral or just before. I’m sure bbc said it was Sunday night at 8pm.

Sparklingbrook · 13/09/2022 14:50

I don't do much at 8pm on a Sunday so that'll be ok. I can just ignore it. I hate being in shops etc when you have to do silences. Grin

Eeksteek · 13/09/2022 15:01

Oh, I thought it was our local officious busybody’s idea, for local people. Didn’t realise it was national. It didn’t seem right to me, so I didn’t. Didn’t hear anyone else either, and the door’s open for a sick dog, so I’d have heard.

The Queen has ten days of national mourning, books of condolence and dedicated church services up and down the country, two minutes silence on Sunday, an entire day of everything closed on Monday and (so I hear) wall to wall TV coverage on multiple channels. I think that’s enough dedicated time for reflection for anybody who wishes to. And a clap is……not the right thing.

WarmChocolateFudgeCake · 13/09/2022 15:07

🤣 I think I'm all clapped out and queened out if I'm honest. Absolutely not.

Ambertonix · 13/09/2022 15:10

I'll clap the day they get rid of the rest of the useless buggers. That will be a day worth applauding.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 13/09/2022 15:13

Nobody did it here although I did know about it. I liked the NHS one during lockdown it gave me a chance to see people that I didn't actually live with.

Letthekidsplay · 13/09/2022 15:18

ChagSameachDoreen · 13/09/2022 14:02

Why would there be a clap? Have we turned into a nation of performing seals?

🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 13/09/2022 14:04

One of the FB pages I follow, Proper Manchester, announced there was an 8.00 p.m. clap last night. Didn't happen where I am in Manchester and haven't heard any other chat about it

I live in Greater Manchester, I didn't hear any clapping?

Mybestyear · 13/09/2022 15:21

Pootles34 · 13/09/2022 13:55

No clapping around here - our school have, however, deemed it only proper to cancel the first newsletter of the academic year as a mark of respect to our dear departed monarch, so now we've no idea what's going on but in a respectful way.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
seems “cos….the queen” is the new “cos…..covid” for poor service !!

Mossstitch · 13/09/2022 16:46

Besides anything else clapping on the doorstep for the NHS was because households weren't supposed to be mixing at the time, which is not the case now! Have to say everytime I see the royals shaking hands with everybody along a line all I can think is how unhygienic.........covid😳

Whammyyammy · 13/09/2022 16:57

No clapping round here thankfully.

Mumoblue · 13/09/2022 17:03

What? She’s not a fuckin’ Peter Pan fairy.
There were some kids scream-singing the new national anthem in the street yesterday but the kids on my street are pretty screamy in general. Makes me just slightly murderous as I’m trying to put the kid down to sleep but what can you do.

LampLighter414 · 13/09/2022 17:03

None here thankfully.

ifonly4 · 13/09/2022 17:06

I didn't know anything about it. I had read that there would be either clapping at 8pm on Sunday or people could stay in and have a quiet few moments.

1994girl · 13/09/2022 17:07

Nope...

Pixiedust1234 · 13/09/2022 17:13

That could be photoshopped. I was looking for a direct link to a news source. With actual words and named journalist.
