To wonder why no plumber wants to take our money???

All we want is a new bathroom installed.

Had SIX guys out to scope the job.

All six were recommended by others as being the type to definitely get back etc

2 no shows
4 people looked, said they would send quotes.... And NOTHING.

Seriously, a guy could turn up in Stetsons, a cowboy hat and a revolver and I'd give them the money in cash!

Why does noone want the work??

Make sure to Google whoever you get, I was so grateful to get someone who wanted the job I almost gave the deposit to secure him, turned up pages of shoddy work and Phoenix companies. Really dodged a bullet.

Working with a lot of tradesmen can say it's a mix of some are just unreliable, but most true professionals i know are booked for a long time and can't commit to big projects for quite a long time.

Maybe trying to have a discussion before they even come about the size of the job and when they could realistically fit you in would help? It's rubbish for you, but easy for them to push aside or forget when they're in and out and promising to have a look at the schedule and get back to you.. then never do

I've really struggled to find a roofer. They don't even turn up to quote.

It's driving me mad.

The classic conundrum.

So many are too busy to come and do the work.

Then when you finally get one who will you're like ''hmmmm - how come no one else wants them .... !? 🤔''

I have a similar problem. There’s plenty of work available so tradesmen are picking and choosing the easiest jobs and rejecting anything that’s even slightly difficult. Currently I want a patio laid but I live in a terraced house so it’s not possible to get a digger or wheelbarrow into my garden. The tradesmen would have to dig it by hand and carry the buckets of soil out through my house, then carry the stone slabs in one at a time. Needless to say none of them want to do it when they can do easier jobs instead where there’s access to the garden for a digger and wheelbarrow. One guy said he’d do it for fifteen grand! (the going rate for a patio is about four grand)

@Blomonge our local toolhire place's smallest digger will fit through front and interior doors. Are you sure you can't get a digger?

My partner is a plumber, he's been really quiet over summer but had had 6 phones calls today to go price work. It's got crazy in the last week.

If you are in the north west I can recommend him

I think it is just backlogs of work, the guy who did our bathroom is excellent, and has done some other work for us, I recommended him to a mutual acquaintance and he's booked up until August next year!
