28 hours over 3 or 4 days

Posting here for traffic.

I have been offered two positions at 27/28 hours and I need help choosing between them...

Would you rather work 4 days at 7 hours per day 09.30 - 4.30 ( paid 30 min lunch included )

OR

3 days at 9 hours per day 8am - 6pm paid hour lunch )

One means I get 3 days a week off and the other means I get 4 ( to state the obvious).

To add , husband works from home and kids are older so childcare isn't an issue.

Thanks

3 days a week without a shadow of a doubt. And I'd ask if I could have a 30 min dinner and finish at 530 not 6.

Thankyou all, the 3 day job is not something that will build up on the two days I'm off, it's reception work and also not a job that you need to take home which is good.

I'm edging for the 3 day a week job I think, it's a difficult one though as the jobs are very different.

I do a full time job in 3 days, long days at approx 13 hours a day, but I'd rather do that than the standard 5 days. Also works out great when booking leave

TildaRae · 12/09/2022 18:58

It depends what type of work it is. I’d do the 4 days. Means I’m in the business more and that extra day being there could really help with continuity and career progression. And less to catch up on as only away one day a week.

XJerseyGirlX · 12/09/2022 19:01

@rickandmorts I would love that but it's covering reception until 6.30 close. But I suppose I could use the hour to study and would be getting paid for it.

Three days tips the balance to being off more days than you are in, which is mentally such a wonderful thing!

I did 8am-6pm with 30 minute lunch Tue wed thu. It was brilliant. No bank holidays ever fell on my work days but I was given the equivalent as time off in lieu.

I'm on maternity but will return to 3 days, 27hours 45 mins over the week. This works for me due to childcare but even before i was pregnant i was working 4 compressed days.

I can wfh though and usually do a 7-5

Fedupofbeinginpain · 12/09/2022 19:11

I do 27 hours over 3 days.

I get 2 non working days a week, my youngest has just started school so enjoying my free time for now.

It also helps during school holidays with balancing out paying for childcare etc.

summergone · 12/09/2022 19:13

3 days definitely, 2 whole days a week to yourself , lovely . I would make sure that on those 3 days thou I wouldn't be expected to get home and cook a meal for everyone !

kitcat15 · 12/09/2022 19:14

For me its about the 'get ups'.... so 3 ? Or 4? ......for me I would always pick the least days....so 3 days is a no brained

XJerseyGirlX · 12/09/2022 19:18

@kitcat15 yes 3 get ups and 4 lay ins
do seem rather nice :-)

I'd go for the 3 days, especially if an NHS job because of the pension. Would you get blue light discount too? My DB works in admin for the NHS and he does.

ThreeRingCircus · 12/09/2022 19:29

Oh and FWIW I work 3 days in a row then have 4 off and find it pretty perfect in terms of work life balance. It also means I can have long weekends away without taking any annual leave.
