Bear Grylls Adventure PODGY MUM URGENT QUESTION

Sorry, I am probably being unreasonable to ask, but....

We have the offer of free tickets for Bear Grylls Adventure in Birmingham. I have an 8 year old who would like to do the high ropes and climbing. The website says 9 and 9 years old must be accompanied on the activity by an adult.

I AM TOO PODGY TO DO THIS AND WAY TOO UNFIT! My 8 year old loves high ropes and climbing and will be great. Me waddling my way around will not be any help at all.

Has anyone done these activities with an 8 year old and did you have to actually take part or can I just buy an activity ticket and watch???

Please and thank you.

@Worldgonecrazy Youtube fitness videos :-) Honestly, no. I'm not insanely unfit - I mean I walk 10,000 steps a day (at least!), very active lifestyle, can run for the bus. But I cannot climb and it would take more than a few youtube videos to get me to that! i have tried at clip n climb. Nope. Can't do it at all.

He can go on the assault course without me surely? I'm happy to stand there and cheer him on. I'll be RIGHT THERE. I'm not going to bury my head in my phone or anything.

It's 10 or over for shooting even with an adult. So I have to be the adult for my older child for shooting so the 8 year old will have to sit out for that bit anyway.

There is no swapping tickets sadly. Once it's booked, it's booked.

I'll have a go at high ropes. But I can't see any instructor being thrilled with me going around too slowly - my 8 year old literally whizzes round it like it's laid out on the floor! He'd be the first person shouting "get OFF Mummy, you're in the way!".

They don't have a phone line open until Thursday but I'll call and see what they say... Really don't want to lie and so I won't. But if I have to "take part" it will be probably much less safe (random 40 something woman stuck high up while her child is flying down the zip wire for the 20th time).

I think also the thing making me feel quite arsey is that both my children have down axe throwing, archery, shooting, high ropes etc at other places and they have always been allowed to do it without me (although I am always there with them). Maybe that's what they need - just an adult who is physically there in case they get upset etc?

You seem to be getting very animated by this. You'll either meet the requirements or you won't, they'll be happy to bend the rules or they won't. I really can't see the point of all the upset that they've done these things before but might not be able to this time. You could pass the tickets to someone who can use them.
