To ask if Windsor/or Woking is quite busy now because of the Queen

Bit of an odd question but tried googling but no luck
Was supposed to arrange to meet childhood friend who lives in Windsor. Havent seen him for years and I actually said I would do it this evening as I have Mondays off.

We arranged to meet Woking area and maybe head into London
However, with the Queen's passing I am wondering if it will be too busy? Hate gping on packed trains. Luckily I jave somewhere to stay but if I plan to stay another night would look for hotel

Is it meant to be busier now (the Woking/Windsor area)
Does anyone know what it was like last night?

Thanks

Woking is fine! Have a good trip OP.

Ha ha. Woking isn't rough. It's a working town, not a tourist destination but it's absolutely fine for food and drink! Plenty of restaurants. Marcianos is nice. Nowhere near Windsor

Can’t believe people are acting like Woking is the bronx or something. It’s a perfectly fine (if sad) town centre and has some very lovely and bougie bits a short walk away.

We're hoping to visit Windsor on the weekend to pay tribute as getting to central London will be too difficult with three young children. I appreciate Windsor is still very busy atm. We were planning on travelling early (from South Wales) and spending a few hours in the great park. Can anyone advise on where to park? I understand tributes are being left at the Cambridge gate, where is this in relation to the town? I'm not familiar with Windsor. Thanks

How young are your children? Parking at the Great park is free but it’s a fair walk along the Long Walk (but easy enough as it’s flat and paved)
Cambridge gate where floral tributes are being left is at the very start of the Long Walk at the back of the castle. If you walk from the Great park car park that’s exactly where you will end up. They put up lots of toilets that end. And barriers. It was very very busy over the weekend, not so bad today. Next weekend will be probably worse but hard to tell. I imagine people will be queuing ready for Monday afternoon when the Queen’s coffin will travel to Windsor via the Long walk.

Woking is fine. Its not a super fab town but it's perfectly safe. There are "cuter" little villages ans country pubs in Send or Ripley if you don't want town centre chains ans your friend can just pick you up.

Haha I stumbled on an old MN post I think dated in 2008 when I was googling it and it reads a really unpleasant tirade on Woking!
They make it sound horrendous!

I just measured it and it's 4.2miles from Savill Garden to Cambridge Gate 😱

Mb76 · 12/09/2022 22:14

@CatGrins gosh don’t park at the Savill Garden, that is far. There are two or three car parks on A322 Parallel to the Long Walk. Maybe about 1-1.5 miles from the Cambridge gate. But these car parks get filled up fast, arrive early if you can.

Thanks, they're 10, 8 and 2 (we'll take buggy for her!)

Woking isn’t rough. Ok, there are a couple of less desirable areas but there are also some highly desirable areas.

i went into the town centre today and it’s wasn’t particularly busy, the roads were fine.
