... and don't want it to be uploaded into my OneDrive, am I right in thinking that the only place I can put it is in my Downloads folder? That seems to me to be the only storage location that isn't backed up to the Cloud. (Don't get me wrong, I do want most of my files to be online, but occasionally I just want to store something locally).

It might depend what it is and what program/software.....
I installed Office onto my W10 laptop, and had to make definite selection to be able to use it offline, and store just to the laptop. I also use a small flash drive, but am always losing it!
Or attach to an email - that doesn't back up to the Cloud does it?

I am sure someone will have better advice, so I'll be looking out for it.

Desktop?

I can’t access my ‘work’ desktop from my laptop.

Utilityroomenvy · 11/09/2022 16:23

Store on your desktop or on your ‘C’ drive assuming that’s the default drive partition.

HappyPeach · 11/09/2022 16:26

Make a folder on your desktop and put your stuff in there. I have loads of folders on mine.

HappyPeach · 11/09/2022 16:27

If you're downloading it you can direct it to a new folder or move it from the downloads folder. I have folders for allsorts

Thanks for the suggestions, but the Desktop and C:Documents folder are both synced to OneDrive, so no good.

The Downloads folder seems to be the only storage location that isn't synced (for obvious reasons).

I have unsynced my desktop and use that to keep stuff that I don't want in the cloud.

FictionalCharacter · 11/09/2022 16:48

You could get an external hard drive. They’re cheap and compact now.

I thought you could create a new folder anywhere (Desktop, C Drive, etc) and set just that folder not to sync? This should hopefully give you step by step instructions:

Just create a new folder at the root of your C: drive, or navigate a couple of folders in if you want it under your user account (c: > users > yourname) or whatever your user account shows up as.
