To wonder how we are having an early autumn?

I am hearing a lot in the media about how we are experiencing an early autumn. Here in the northwest it is still very warm and summer like. Surely, this would cause a late autumn? There definitely isn't any trace of autumn's coolness in the air.

I heard that due to the heat trees have dropped leaves earlier than usual.

Cooler here and loads of heavy rain and thunderstorms. But I wouldn't call it "early" about average I would say.

It's because the summer has been so dry
The trees have gone into survival mode

Yes I’d heard that it was because of the dry weather, the trees drop their leaves to preserve water so lots have shed already.

I was in the New Forest a few weeks back and the forest floor was already fairly covered, this was in August.

West Midlands here - definitely autumnal here this morning - rainy cobwebs on the washing line and a chill in the air

Surely rhe increased energy supply ie sun, means rhe tree has finished its reproductive work slightly earlier
