Who is being unreasonable?

We have just had a new fridge so arranged for the council to collect the old one and paid £10. Their email clearly stated that in order for them to collect it, the fridge needed to be visible on the drive. We have a skip on the drive which was in front of the fridge, so I told DH to move the fridge from behind the skip so that it was visible for the council. I went off to work and expected DH to move the fridge as he was WFH that day.

I got home from work only to see that DH had not moved the fridge and as a result, it had not been collected. I had an email from the council stating that they were unable to collect the fridge as it was not visible and we would have to pay another £10 if we want them to come back. Attached to the email was also a picture of our drive showing that there was "no fridge" on our drive. I was annoyed as the fridge has been on our drive for quite a few weeks and frankly I'm sick of looking at it. I asked DH why he had not moved the fridge and he seems to think that whoever came to collect it should have knocked on the door if they couldn't see it and now wants to raise a complaint with the council. I told him that their email clearly said we need to put the fridge in a visible place and if he had simply followed the instructions, they would have collected it. He is having none of it and is refusing to pay another £10.

Clearly your dh is being unreasonable.

Mammyloveswine · 11/09/2022 12:47

Id be livid with DH!!! What a dick thinking the clear instructions don't apply to him!!

Pixiedust1234 · 11/09/2022 12:51

Just to add to the mountain of replies. DH is BU. He is also lazy. What makes him so special he can ignore instructions that actually benefit him in the long run?

Also tell him he's lucky. My council charges £30 per item, not £10.

Womencanlift · 11/09/2022 12:56

Why does your DH think rules don’t apply to him? I hope you are leaving it up to him to contact the council for a second collection. This shouldn’t be on you to rearrange. This is his fuck up

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 11/09/2022 13:17

Is he always such a useless article?

InsertPunHere · 11/09/2022 13:22

Clear case of DH being unreasonable (and lazy)

Riapia · 11/09/2022 13:25

YABU.
Obviously you should have got a man to give your DH instructions.
Woman know your place.

RedHelenB · 11/09/2022 13:25

Get him to take it to the tip.

Munchyseeds2 · 11/09/2022 13:52

Time to put his hand in his pocket I think!

Munchyseeds2 · 11/09/2022 13:53

And move the fridge so it can be seen

Awrite · 11/09/2022 13:58

Easiest AIBU ever.

DH is being unreasonable. Men do have their pride though.

Tierne · 11/09/2022 14:06

Hes a lazy twat. The whole point is so the council guys dont have to go scrambling around the drive looking for stuff or wasting time knocking on the door and having a convo with him.

Let DH organise the second try

LookItsMeAgain · 11/09/2022 14:45

Has your DH moved the fridge yet? If not, why not? He should contact the council and arrange for them to collect it and pay the £10 out of his "I'm a bit of a plonker" fund 😆
