AIBU?

To seek revenge on neighbours

NC for this

New neighbours have a number of animals. Regularly leaving them for long periods of times including going away on overnight stays etc.
Very loud in my house disrupting my DC from sleeping and we can't hear the TV over the noise.
They have, yet again, gone away it seems and the animals have been relentless since the afternoon.

Spoken to neighbours on multiple occassions to no avail, the response has just been agressive so we are beyond that stage.
Spoken to RSPCA before who advised not much they can do as long as they have water and shelter.
Considering legal action but need to look into this further (will be grateful for any knowledge)

I know IABU but we are also planning a trip away in the near future and the unreasonable part of me wants them to experience a taste of their own medicine Grin

Record all the noise coming from next door and then play it back to them on full volume when you go away.

Report to the local council regarding the noise.

Report the noise to the council.

Don't get into a tit for tat game of revenge, it'll only make it worse.

Report to environmental health under noise pollution. They'll likely give you a diary to keep of the noise and maybe a sound detector. I'm assuming it's dogs they have when you say animals? Keep in touch with the dog warden as well because if the animals sound distressed they shouldn't be leaving them in that state. But to seek revenge would absolutely be unreasonable.

I think it depends on how long they're leaving them for. If they are away overnight then the dogs should have access to food as well as water and shelter.

It varies. Sometimes shorter periods of time mid-afternoon till late night.
It has been up to 3 nights since they moved in only a couple of months ago however they do have a dog sitter seems to appear for 5-10 mins I presume to put out food and water but no walking etc.

Hard to be able to pinpoint when they are going to leave them in order for the council to collect evidence however it doesn't seem to be a one off so it will continue to happen.
Noise when they are there as well late at night/early hours as there is always comings and goings to the house late night/early hours.

Report to the local council regarding the noise.

But be mindful that if you plan to sell before they go themselves, then you will have to declare this to potential buyers.

I'd be wary of escalating the row with the neighbours, nobody ever wins

They have a dog sitter? I hardly think the rspca are going to think they are bad owners then, do you?

This person only comes for 5 mins once every 24 hours or more they don't get walked or anything it must be purely to feed them.

Still doesn't distract from the fact the dogs are barking solidly for hours and hours and impacting on our lives hugely.

You need to record the noise as much as possible with a time stamp and dates on the video and send it to environmental health.

I bet that individual is also being paid to walk the dogs but failing to do so. Tell the owners that these people are taking the mickey. They may genuinely not know their dogs are not being exercised.

They are aware we have raised this issue with them on multiple occassions, the first time we raised it was out of concern for the animals unfortunately we just received a barage of abuse and threats so I believe they are fully aware of their set up. They have never walked the dogs either themselves.

I have spoken with local authority noise team, the only concerns about this avenue is a) They don't do anything about it other than warn them and they make our lives worse and b) In that situation then we may not be able to move in the future due to having to disclose this information. Sad
