To think this will be a terrible waste of plastic

I just read that all the money will be reprinted with Charles on instead and the old Queen stuff destroyed. Why?!

How much money will that cost? How much plastic wasted?

I think printing more money after a period of printing loads of money (during a pandemic, mind) is incredibly risky as we face inflation and a cost of living crisis. Isn’t there a risk of hyperinflation in doing so, given the current economic climate? Sorry to go off topic. And doubly sorry if I’m talking out of my backside.

I'm afraid that you are. This is about replacing existing banknotes. Not the same as increasing the number of them.

Well yes they can't do it all at once. But they could just leave it in circulation to be gradually replaced? Rather than reprinting everything, coins too!

that is exactly what will happen.

That's what I thought this would be about. Acres of cellophane wrapped flowers-such a waste.

Acres of flowers AND plastic- a total waste of resources and a mess for someone to clear up.

FarmerRefuted · 09/09/2022 10:04

Any plastic banknotes removed from circulation get recycled

It'll all be done gradually in much the same way as when they change the design of a note and you get a long period of the old one still being valid at the same time as the new one is in use.

PAFMO · 09/09/2022 10:05

Which is exactly what they will do. And have said.

FarmerRefuted · 09/09/2022 10:06

I agree on the flowers issue though, it's a terrible waste but then I think all cut flowers are a terrible waste. What's the point of something that looks nice for a day or two then starts to die? I'd rather people left potted plants that can at least be replanted elsewhere.

Yes, I didn’t think King Charles was into all that 🤷‍♀️

TugboatAnnie · 09/09/2022 10:13

Lol like it's his fault somehow! Why don't the suppliers/sellers etc think of an eco way to wrap flowers?

Of course it's not his fault why would it be? He would have an opinion on it though. But the palace could have said 'no flowers' if they really wanted to.
Cut flowers are such a waste of time whatever they are wrapped in.

So will the old stamps still work?

It's hard calling Charles king he's always been Prince Charles to me for so long.

Yes, till the barcode thing in January anyway.

He can just be King Prince Charles now. It does feel like “Prince Charles” is his actual name.
