To warn you about CBeebies utube content

And ask you to report it?

Just came across ds (who’d searched for CBeebies on utube) and found this. Who makes this nonsense and why? So utterly unhelpful and revolting.

YouTube Kids is a YouTube version with tighter security for childrens videos. I'd recommend installing that and deleting YouTube.

Keroppi · 08/09/2022 07:07

Yes, look up ElsaGate, youtube kids is full of gross sexualised content. I've seen some stuff that's obviously someones niche fetish be put into YouTube kids - kids feet compilations etc

Jelliesapp.com meant to be good but I've not used it yet

Unfortunately you can’t trust YouTube Kids either, as there’s a lot of similar content on there (videos in the guise of children’s programmes, but not). We don’t allow DD unsupervised access to YouTube (although can’t stop it at play dates).

YellowTreeHouse · 08/09/2022 07:09

Your son shouldn’t have been watching it unsupervised.

If they’re young enough to be watching CBeebies they shouldn’t have unsupervised access to YouTube/the internet.

Instead of trying to censor things you don’t like, just parent your child.

MichelleScarn · 08/09/2022 07:00

I think cbeebies is gone from Tv now and is only on line?

No, it’s still on tv.

For a child of CBeebies age I’d say no YouTube at all ideally, YouTube Kids under supervision at the most.

FuzzyAndBlue · 08/09/2022 07:12

I think cbeebies is gone from Tv now and is only on line?

So use iPlayer.

OldTinHat · 08/09/2022 07:13

YABVU. You should not allow your DS to use YouTube if he's under 13. Your own fault imo.

gogohmm · 08/09/2022 07:15

There's lots of things like this, they are funny and for adults. (Not seen thins particular one). Supervise your children, do not use the internet as an electronic babysitter.

I personally dont think young children should be on tablets but there's safe apps you can use for short periods, put on parental controls etc. Honestly you would think that people didn't have kids before tablets - if you are busy let them play with toys or draw

Chouetted · 08/09/2022 07:22

It's a YTP, it's meant to be satirical.

I don't appreciate the humour myself, it's juvenile, but it's not aimed at children - who probably aren't even old enough to remember the Tweenies. It's aimed at adults.

HOTHotPeppers · 08/09/2022 07:29

You lube really isn't a place for children. Even YouTube kids has dodgy content. You have to supervise like a hawk. Stick to iplayer, netflix, prime, Disney ect.

HOTHotPeppers · 08/09/2022 07:29

*Youtube

ChippingLeCrue · 08/09/2022 07:41

YTP in the title means YouTube Poop. A quick google would let you know that too.

The only way to make sure your child only watches what you want on YouTube, stuff you have vetted is to set up a playlist and only let them watch that. Sadly you need to monitor their online activity. Even YouTube Kids is not safe. YouTube do not have the resources to deal with all the crap that is uploaded on there. The thing your child was watching is aimed at adults.

There are official channels including one for Cbeebies with a verified tick next to it

https://www.youtube.com/c/cbeebies

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/09/2022 07:44

It’s your responsibility to keep your children safe on the internet but monitoring their usage and ensuring they don’t have access to apps with adult content on. YouTube has lots of videos not suitable for a preschooler. Obviously a young child shouldn’t be accessing YouTube, it’s not suitable. You can watch CBeebies on iPlayer or some shows are on Netflix, on a either Website/ app you can input proper parental controls and be sure there isn’t any content uploaded by users. It’s unreasonable to expect the internet to be censored because you don’t want to supervise your child on a website which is known to have adult content and to contain videos made and uploaded by other people. YouTubes terms of service states that users must be 13 or over to use it and that those using it should be supervised by a parent/ guardian so you really need to step up as a parent and supervise your child if you’re letting him on YouTube.

5zeds · 08/09/2022 08:04

Thanks for all the responses. I was only highlighting this as it is titled in a way that makes it likely to be searched and found by the unwary. If you knew about it already or your child doesn’t have access to it then it’s unlikely to be of any help to you.

Ds loves CBeebies (and nick junior etc) because he remembers them from when he was younger and is disabled. Obviously I supervise him as closely as possible and try to protect him from places he shouldn’t be, but over the considerably longer time I’ll be doing this there are moments we miss something.

Thank you to the person who reported it for me as is probably obvious I’m not a person with a lot of time for YouTube etc. I’m sure there are lots of other horrible things on there and kids YouTube sounds like a good idea. It’s particularly older kids tv programs that are attractive so any ideas on how to give an illusion of freedom while keeping the baddies out are very welcome.

Keroppi · 09/09/2022 18:16

I would probably go for DVDs or possibly streaming sites that play older kids cartoons?

YT kids is much easier than normal YT and would probably still have the older kids cartoons on there but weird stuff still makes it through. Maybe just iPlayer? Or only watching things on youtube from your subscription list/create a few different playlists of approved videos.

If you search on youtube "retro cbeebies/specific show cartoons" etc it will bring up playlists other people have made, have a quick look through and then you can save them for later or put it on for him

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 18:23

A child shouldn’t have access to this. CBeebies is on iPlayer.

XtinaCaligulara · 09/09/2022 18:24

YABU

Why was your child unsupervised on YouTube

Parenting fail right there OP

MercurialMonday · 09/09/2022 18:28

You could get him watching BBC children channels on iPlayer.

Jobsagoodun1 · 09/09/2022 18:30

Just search for ElsaGate - it will explain it all.
YouTube Kids is just more content labelled for kids, but uploaded by anyone from anywhere.
Children should not have access to YouTube or YouTube Kids.

MsChatterbox · 09/09/2022 18:31

MichelleScarn · 08/09/2022 07:00

I think cbeebies is gone from Tv now and is only on line?

There's plans to stop cbbc on TV maybe that's where you've got confused!

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 18:59

It’s not really fair to label this as CBeebies when it has nothing at all to do with CBeebies.

RiftGibbon · 09/09/2022 19:35

When my DC started at primary school, parents were given a talk about social media, etc. which included youtube. There was a discussion around the fact that it is not necessarily regulated or censored so you shouldn't let your child watch it.
During the discussion they mentioned, as an example, sweary Thomas the Tank Engine.*
Just don't let young children watch youtube without having checked it first.

*Obviously I went straight home and looked it up

5zeds · 09/09/2022 20:48

@Snowiscold It’s not really fair to label this as CBeebies when it has nothing at all to do with CBeebies. the entire difficulty is that it’s labelled CBeebies, but yes it’s massively “unfair” that ds searched for something harmless and tumbled into this mire.

@RiftGibbon When my DC started at primary school, parents were given a talk about social media, etc. which included youtube. There was a discussion around the fact that it is not necessarily regulated or censored so you shouldn't let your child watch it. ds is disabled not KS1 so it’s bit more complicated for him and us.

@Keroppi I think me creating a list he can search from is a good idea, thank you. We have iPlayer and some dvds but he loves utube as it has lots of shows we don’t have on video from when he was little and this would let him keep a version of it which will make things easier.
