Reading Festival for a 17YO girl

Would you allow your (nearly) 17 year old daughter to go to the Reading Festival without adults? To be honest I'm not sure whether I'm being a fun sponge or not. My instinct in response to ExH wanting to buy tickets for her is 'not this year'. Literally found out today from CAMHS that she's on the spectrum, which is maybe influencing how I feel. Am I being unreasonable in not wanting her to go to the festival without adults?

Pretty normal for a 17-year-old to go to a festival with her mates, no? I can’t really why it would be a problem. A 17-year-old doesn’t need chaperoning.

limitededitionbarbie · 07/09/2022 19:48

Do t you need to be 18 to get in if your unaccompanied by an adult?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/09/2022 19:49

It’s over! The next one is August bank hol next year.

My DD went aged 16 and has just been again aged 17. It was DH who bought her the ticket the first time and I wasn't very pleased. I was worried while she was there but she had a great time and this year I was far less worried.
I can't comment on your daughter specifically of course but actually I'm proud of my daughter for wanting to go and for having a good time.

It’s usually full of 16 year olds who have just picked up their GCSEs

Scaredypup · 07/09/2022 19:51

Mine went at the exact same age. Also going through asd assessments and has many MH issues. She was fine.
Although she’d been off the rails previously so I in my mind, I thought she’s probably done much worse than go to a festival already.

Reading is pretty much full of 16 year olds straight after GCSE results. DC went this year (17) but most of my friends' 16 year olds went. If you trust her to be sensible then I think it's fine. My DC went with a group of 6 friends of both genders and they all had a great time.

Thank you for the responses - I'm being an overly protective fun sponge. I think I worry too much.

I first went at 16, many moons ago - post GCSEs. Half my school year was there. I think 17 is ok to go with friends.

I'm asking for next year's Reading Festival. She'll be nearly 17 then.

Thank you for your response. I think I may be overly protective and perhaps need to let go more.

It is a big worry when they start doing these things but you’ve got to let them.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 07/09/2022 22:24

Yes, I think you’re right

I'd let her go but pay for "camping plus" which is safer and away from the trouble. I wish I'd done that for my Dd this year. Failing that, pick her up after the last act on Sunday before it gets crazy.
