To want something to stop the bleeding now, not in three weeks?!

i have messed up periods, normally around 5-7 weeks between periods and lasts 5 ish days but extremely heavy. To the point I leak constantly out of my cup etc.

I have a copper coil (fitted October 2018).
it’s been ok just cramping when I ovulate but it is what it is.

iv always had heavy periods and in the past doctors have given me meds to slow it down when it’s prolonged.

this period has been going on for 20 days now. It stops for an hour and I’m excited and then I sit up and it pours out.

i feel so fed up. There’s no end to it. I rang the doctors and asked for the meds again, but they said the doctor won’t give me anything because he wants to discus having my coil replaced as it might have ran out already.. the next appointment is 28th..

i have constantly cramping, I’m bleeding through my clothes, I’m exhausted and fed up.

🥺

This is where I'd be wanting to go to OOH or the minor injuries and illnesses clinic. You should NOT have to wait three weeks.

MaryJoLisa · 07/09/2022 21:32

I couldn't find anything to stop mine, it was exhausting. You have my sympathy.

PragmaticWench · 07/09/2022 21:36

That surely counts as excessive bleeding and needs a solution sooner? I'd complain.

Sidge · 07/09/2022 21:37

Copper coils last ten years, and are the least good option with menorrhagia. You’d be better off with a Mirena.

MoMuntervary · 07/09/2022 21:37

That's rubbish OP. Ibuprofen will help reduce flow a bit. Or if you can afford to shell out a few quid Boots have

www.247-shops.co.uk/products.php?q=Boots+Cyklo+F+Heavy+Period+Relief+500mg+Tablets+Tranexamic+Acid+18+Tablets for heavy periods

which is tranexamic acid. This is what I get on prescription from the docs and it works.

Sidge · 07/09/2022 21:38

Anyway in the meantime call back tomorrow and insist you have the tranexamic acid whilst you await the appointment.

downbythewoods · 07/09/2022 21:41

Men would NEVER have to put up with this shit. I'm sorry to hear that, sounds rubbish. And I can sympathise as I've been heavier lately and it's exhausting. But that tablet from Boots could be a good solution. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻

moonypadfootprongs · 07/09/2022 21:57

Please go back and demand a referral to a gynaecologist. I had similar symptoms and have just been diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer. I had had symptoms for years and not taken seriously. I'm only in my 30s and am looking at having a hysterectomy and never having children.

I don't mean to scare you but abnormal bleeding should always be taken seriously and so often isn't.

MinkyWinky · 07/09/2022 22:06

The way women with heavy periods are treated is awful. There are guidelines in place that doctors are meant to follow - NICE guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment are here: www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng88. Not much help in the immediate term, but make sure you know what is meant to happen, so you have alll your facts when you see the GP. Basic treatment options are Mirena coil, tranxemic acid, there are surgical options too, more info here: www.wearwhiteagain.co.uk. Unfortunately you need either a proactive GP who will refer you for investigations or you’re going to need to fight all the way. Good luck!

Blueysmum12 · 11/09/2022 07:29

I managed to finally get some of that acid stuff on Friday and have been taking it 3x a day but I’m still bleeding. It will stop and then I will have some cramping and it will start again.

do you think I could get a scan? How do I do that? :( I’m so fed up

Tell them that you’re having bleeding that is not normal for you, and that it’s age your ability to work. They hate it when you can’t work.

Exactly - about men

You sound like me a few years ago. It was horrific.

I tried tranexamic acid, Mirena, norethisterone and Zoladex. Nothing worked.

I had huge fibroids which my body was trying to eject almost constantly. I was emptying my menstrual cup up to 10 times a day and eventually had to wear adult nappies as the bleeding was so bad.

I had a failed fibroid removal (they grew back with 6 months) and then a hysterectomy. At age 40. I paid to have it done privately as the NHS refused to give me any treatment which was effective in stopping the bleeding. It aas that, or lose everything as I was struggling to work.

I was told over and over by the NHS that the amount I was bleeding and my iron levels were "within normal range" even after blood tests. However, I had to have 2 iron infusions before I was allowed my surgery, as my levels were dangerously low.

If you can afford to have even a scan and a consultant appointment privately it may help get to the bottom of what's going on and allow you to demand the right treatment.

LizziesTwin · 11/09/2022 07:54

You can have an internal scan whilst you are bleeding, so don’t worry if you are offered a date for one while this is going on. I had an endometrial ablation and it stopped my bleeding.

Thefriendlymoth · 11/09/2022 07:59

That’s awful and also how I ended up in hospital with severe anemia needing a blood transfusion! Definitely keep on at them as there are a few options that will temporarily stop the bleeding whilst you wait for this “discussion “ about the coil replacement. Horrible attitude from the GP :(

Teenprobs · 11/09/2022 08:04

Will norethisterone be any help to you in the mean time?
