To think there must be some magic thing that makes a bed crap at night and heaven in the day?

I don't share a room with my husband so it's not that. 😁

At night I can't get comfy no matter what I do. Back, side, other side, back, front, side, two pillows, no pillow etc.

Same bed when I have my afternoon kip and I just flop any old how and it's like I'm resting on clouds and surrounded by kittens!

I think it’s probably because you have lower expectations of the quality of sleep during the day.

I'm asking this now cos I'm lying blissfully comfy and wishing it felt like this at night 🤣

Yeah, that may well be it.

Maybe if you stop the daytime nap, you'll be more tired and fall asleep easier at night?

IncompleteSenten · 07/09/2022 15:07

Doesn't help I'm afraid. If I try it I get really unwell and the bed hurts more anyway! I can't really cope without them tbh.

It's just weird that it's the same bloody bed! It makes bugger all sense. 😁

Of course it makes sense. If you're napping in the afternoon you're not going to be as tired at night. But I do love an afternoon nap myself so know what you mean!

Isn’t it the same rule that means at night your bed is uncomfy and not welcoming but when the alarm goes off and you need to get up, it is a square of heaven? I’m afraid I don’t know why but I think it’s lack of pressure - when I go to sleep I’m always thinking about everything I need to do and how early I need to be up, but the rare afternoon nap is such a luxury that I feel relaxed.

IncompleteSenten · 07/09/2022 18:26

Oh yes that's a bugger! The best sleep is the few minutes after you hit the snooze button!

I'm always tired. 😁 I have heart failure and won't see old age.

I have tried going the whole day like I said and it makes things worse for me. I promise you that's true. It doesn't make the night better.

But this isn't a pity party for my few years left on the earth 🎻 it's about why my bed hates me at night 🤣

I found the only way to break the spell is to work nights. Then it's the other way around ;)

IncompleteSenten · 07/09/2022 18:35

That might not be a bad idea! Keep switching. Stay one step ahead of my bed. 🤣

Open window?

I'm having a post-work rest and the room is cool and pleasant, dim though not dark, and I'm feeling the clouds and kittens.

At night, with the curtains drawn, it's a very different vibe, even with the window open. In the heatwave we left the curtain open as well, and ran a fan pointed at the ceiling (air circulation, rather than a direct draft) and it recreated the dim, cool vibe. So much so, that we're still showing with the curtain open, even though it's no longer sweltering.

I think people focus so much on making a bedroom cosy, that they often don't realise that they may sleep much better in a cool bedroom, and end up making it too warm.
