Power cuts

I really don't think IABU.

We have regular power cuts such that I can't rely on my electric clock radio for getting me up for work so have a second old fashioned alarm clock running alongside.

Tonight, yet again, I've got home to find the oil boiler running. The microwave & clock radio are flashing and the water is piping hot. The heating has also come on despite having been off all summer.

Clearly we've had another power cut. Everything has been running for goodness knows how long as I've been at work all day snd my electricity provider are going to expect me to pay the bill!

Is there anything I can do?

I should add that it's my oil tank that is running down and costing me a fortune!

Is it your fuse box or the supply to the house that's the problem?

Why does your boiler switch itself on if the electricity goes on and off? That's not normal either.

If it's not your fuses needing resetting each time, phone your network operator (like Western Power rather than British Gas - you can find yours here: www.energynetworks.org/customers/find-my-network-operator) , and ask why its happening?

Thank you @GetOffTheRoof I will look into that

Echo previous poster, get your internal electrics checked sounds like something is tripping your fuse box

You definitely need to get an electrician to look at your wiring etc! As above, none of that should be happening if the power goes off, if anything it would all be off as timers and things would need resetting. Do your neighbours also suffer from these power cuts, or just your house?

We have oil fired heating and have never had the boiler kick in or heating come in after a power cut.

Agree there may be a problem with your settings. If your heating has been off all summer it shouldn’t come on as the thermostat should keep it from doing so (unless you have it set really really high) In a power cut in my house the boiler automatically returns to its usual settings/timings as there is a battery in the control panel.

My plumber is coming to service the boiler next week so I will start with him. It's really annoying to be constantly resetting clocks.

Thank you for your help
