Wet gangrene

Granddad was in hospital a while ago, suspected stroke due to smoking all his life. Turns out he also had gangrene in one foot and ended up having it amputated.

He's been inIn and out of hospital (Covid, uti etc) but has been for the past month at a care home

Some days he's compos mentis but others confused. He's just been admitted to hospital his ulcer/dry gangrene is now wet gangrene apparently spreads fast. Does anyone have any info or what should Ask the hospital?

I know they said from his first admission that he only had about a year but was hoping he would be ok for a while :(

I'm not sure what wet gangrene means but it didn't sound good according to my dad

Hugs this isn’t good I’m afraid have they discussed further removal of infection sites if applicable?

I'm not sure. They did talk about amputating the other leg, but then the anaesthetist decided he was too high risk for general anaesthetic so they decided not to. Personally I thought it would be good if they did as even if he didn't make it through the B o o p at least he wouldn't be just surviving to die If that makes sense

How old is he? Is he also a drinker, as well as a smoker? My grandad had gangrene when he was admitted to hospital but they suspected it had been present for weeks before that.

He's 80

I Think he does drink, or at least he did at home , he wasn't but when my gran died about 10 years ago I think he drank more

I think it had been present prior to admission.
But also the remaining ' good " leg seemed to be dry gangrene so he was stable in the nursing home, but it seems now it's wet
