I’d go a step further - have a shorter summer break but allow schools or LEA’s to individually choose an extra week or two whenever they like in the year. This would make a massive difference to the holiday industry.

I could go for that as long as I could also have a couple of weeks off whenever I liked. Would bloody love to go skiing when it's cheap and there are no kids around. I'm sure I could make up some packs of worksheets for my pupils to get on with whilst I was off. After all, many parents seem to think worksheets are perfectly acceptable when they take their children out of school during term time.

I like the kids having a longer summer. My daughter has had 7 weeks off and my son 8 weeks.

The only time I can have a solid period of time off without having to come in is the first two weeks of August. Reduce the holidays by 2-3 weeks and I'll be needed to go in every single day.

My kids secondary does 2wks in October by taking all 5 inset days together, works well. 2wks in May would be nice, not February though

I no longer have children at school, so not really entitled to a comment but a longer school day at secondary age, plus longer half terms to relieve the half term frenzy pricing might decompress the demand. A two week half term in Oct November would spread demand thinner. And those weeks can give lovely weather in most of Europe. Plus an extra week at Easter, when the weather is warrming. Neither is quite warm enough to lounge by the pool so it encourages people to do activities and make holidays more active.

Where I am we get 6 weeks on the summer with every few (4 I think) years it's 7 weeks. Then 2 weeks October Christmas and april.

The kids need a break by the summer. My eldest was in his first exam year and basically was doing exams since November. 2 sets of prelims then the real exams. It was a long year for him and he really needed a break,

Where I’m from the summer holidays have always been 3 months, from 1st June - 31st August. A bit less if you have to take the exams.

And I actually looked up the rest of the holidays for this school year.

First one is Oct 24 - Oct 28
Then Dec 23 - Jan 6
And March 13 - March 17
and then of course summer after that.

I wouldn't be against longer at Christmas. They break up so late that there's hardly time to do Christmassy things with them beforehand.

I’d agree with this sometimes they’ve broken up on the 22nd / 23rd means the panto / parties/ Christmas fun is all crammed in and then there is two boring weeks when it’s freezing outside and everything is closed.
