AIBU?
Two DC with linked names, third DC odd one out?
MarianneVos · 06/09/2022 14:06
I have two DC already. One (boy) has an Italian name (I have a connection to there but neither me or DH have Italian names), the other doesn't (girl - she has a traditional British name). I'm pregnant with another DS and have realised I only really like Italian boys' names.
AIBU to have an Italian name for DS2 as well? Don't know if it will feel weird for DD that her brothers have that connection and she doesn't, especially with them being a different sex? Or am I overthinking it?
Am I being unreasonable?

I think it is fine. Two of my cousins had rhyming names and the other didn’t, like Garry, Larry and Michael, Michael didn’t seem particularly traumatised (probably thought he had the best of it).
I just went and looked at Italian boys names and I really like them too!

Ah this is the time for me to introduce my childhood neighbours Paul, his wife Pauline, their daughter Paula and their son Not-Paul. I can't even remember his actual name.
However with three DC it's not like the Duggars having a non-J name is it. You'll get away with it.

You are overthinking it its fine, but there is a bit of a difference between having names like
Luca, Lily and Marco and names like
Vincenzo, Lily and Salvatore.
I can't imagine Lily would care in either of those but the second set is a bit more unusual if none of you are actually Italian

It's definitely more like the second set, which is what is making me hesitate.

It's fine.
My brother and sister had really (at the time) modern names and my name was very old fashioned traditional. We used to laugh about it when we were kids, it didn't really bother me that I was the odd one out.
I think it's better in your case because they happen to be different sexes.

I think it’s okay. In fact, it’s just lead me to realise that my name is the odd one out compared to my two brothers… it’s literally never crossed my mind before.

A friend of my once worked at a school where there were three siblings. The oldest was called Prince. The next one was called Princess. The last one was called Eric...

Names do not have to match. You like it, use it for your geet.

My brothers have Gaelic names and I have a modern very much anglicised name. I have always wanted a Gaelic name.

Sorry, we are Irish though!

I actually differ in my view to the majority.
Mary, Matthew and Mohammed.
Edward, Harriet and Kaleb.
Francoise, Camille and Oliver.
Rock, River and Thomas.
I mean, it isn’t the end of the world, but it can lead to a certain element of standing out and of discombobulation. I don’t think this means the OP shouldn’t do it, but I don’t think it’s nothing to even think about either.

I have an Italian name and neither of my brothers do. Now I feel like the odd one out! 😂
JasmineIndigo · 06/09/2022 21:14
So Vincenzo, Mavis and Luigi would sound a bit weird. I guess people might assume the Italian named ones were full brothers and the sister was a half sibling. Or they might not give it a second thought.
