to say "fuck it - I'm not redecorating"

recent promotion comes with a house move - company flat.

The previous residents clearly had some very specific taste, which isn't shared, but the place looks OK & they clearly spent a bit of ££ on their fairly recent redecoration.

I am super super busy, lots to do in my challenging new job. I really don't have time to redecorate at the moment (though of course I would out source it). Plus there's a cost of living crisis and it's not a great look to spend thousands on unnesessary redecorating is it? I don't even know how long we'll be here.

I do have a great budget to redecorate, but AIBU to just live with the house as is? Or shall I get hubby on the case and get our chintz on?

YANBU - live with it as is, its a good look & you've got enough on your plate.
YABU - get that new wallpaper up asap, you deserve it.

🤣🤣🤣

Judging by previous staff turnover in the role, you probably won't even need to unpack more than a couple of outfits and order some replacement light bulbs because the last one took them with him.

You might need a good organic stain removal kit, though. But avoid the blacklight option around the sofas, whatever you do.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/09/2022 16:11

I was going to say live with it....but ye god's, the previous incumbent has shit taste.

Cover the sofa with a warm throw.

Frogsalad · 06/09/2022 16:20

In your position I'd suggest just using your redecoration budget to cover all available wall space in overly large, smug self portraits.

Twawmyarse · 06/09/2022 16:21

Il give you a tenner for that lamp - it's right up my alley. PM me 😂

eosmum · 06/09/2022 16:22

Sweetie you ain’t gonna be there long so don’t bother.

fatnotfluffy · 06/09/2022 16:45

Like the previous couple of tenants, it's possible that you won't be there long enough to get much enjoyment out of it, so maybe hold off on it for now

BudgieMustTryHarder · 06/09/2022 17:46

I think you probably need a pair of sunglasses. I'd also get it professionally deep cleaned.

NiqueNique · 06/09/2022 17:53

Oh my god I’m slow today!! It took me an embarrassingly long time to get it...

pastypirate · 06/09/2022 19:54

All you need to do is figure a mood board for 'aspiration britain'. It's modelled on 'cool Britannia' except it's not cool and oasis won't come over your gaff.

Justwanttobebythesea · 06/09/2022 20:02

Have a complete refurb paid for by us generous taxpayers - whatever you like. You deserve it, you will tackle the energy crisis for all us hard-pressed families, cut taxes and fix the NHS. What a woman - is that all in 2022 or do you think it might spill over to 2023?

Awww Liz don't get rid of the wallpaper! 🥺😂

Looks like the inside of a tarts handbag (as my dear old granny would say)

The picture on the thread isn't Downing Street, it's just an example of the interior designer's work in some other rich person's house. We're actually still to see a photo of the famous £100,000 wallpapered room.

Toottooot · 06/09/2022 20:24

Oh ma sides are splitting min.

So it might be some nice anaglypta after all!

You’ll be able to update that with some nice magnolia emulsion

YABU for calling your partner "hubby" as well as expecting him to redocrate if you could be arsed to think it even needs doing. Which I'm pretty sure ain't top of PM Truss's agenda.

Frankly me and my imaginary hubby would be having too much fun dancing up and down the stairs and waltzing into rooms shrieking "I'm fucking PM" as well as "Liz come and have a look at this" as we become quite contorted with laughter before quaffing some celebratory champagne and making our way to our new bedroom. Hoping that we can press a bell and a Staffer brings some Nurofen and coffee before the business of governance starts.

And yes I get the 'joke'

TheClitterati · 25/10/2022 10:57

Well what a shit show that turned out to be. I had such high hopes.

I've spent the morning steaming off wallpaper. Very pleased with the results actually.

I'm off on a much needed holiday. 🖕🏻

I'm sure your successor will be pleased to have a clean slate as it were.
I understand they have enough money to employ the very best artisans.
Hope you managed to recycle some wallpaper for your little flat.
