To ask what happens if you complain about or compliment a named member of Tesco staff?

Just that.
If you complain about them, do they find out or is it looked into first in case it's nonsense?
If you compliment a member of staff, how is it fed back and do they get some sort of award eg a bonus?

A compliment will, possibly, be stuck on a staff notice board or their section manager may tell them they had someone send in a compliment ‘so we’ll done’. No, staff don’t get a bonus.

A complaint will just get someone sending a reply apologising and possibly a low value gift card as a ‘gesture of good will’. The staff member likely won’t even get spoken to unless it’s something really awful.

I did this job for a different food retailer. The complaint gets sent to the store, sometimes the staff member will get spoken to, sometimes they won't.
What's the complaint?

SlowHandClap · 06/09/2022 14:33

I complimented two staff at our local supermarket, they heard fuck all about it
Shame really

@ProlificInProfanity thanks! I think I'd hate to have it on a noticeboard but would like a personal acknowledgement.

@juice92 no complaint. I sent a compliment which just made me wonder.

@SlowHandClap that's a shame. Customer facing staff have to deal with some awful people so it's disappointing that the positives aren't fed back.

Tesco love what they call wow comments. The more each store gets, the more money they will recieve into a community fund. This is then used for local projects. The tesco I work for has donated prizes for school fetes, plants for a care home etc. A local family lost everything in a house fire, the fund allowed them to fill a trolley with new clothes, toiletries and even toys for the children.

Tootief · 06/09/2022 15:54

@nettytree that's lovely. :)

You haven’t worked for them long then netty?

The prizes & helping that family are purely for the publicity, worked there too many years and seen too many good people treated appallingly.

maggiecate · 06/09/2022 16:04

I worked for another food retailer and compliments were always passed on. People were far quicker to complain than they are to give praise so everyone was usually chuffed to bits. It’s a huge boost to everyone’s morale. Complaints would be investigated - there was usually a roughly equal split of ‘it didn’t happen the way they said it did,’ ‘colleague screwed up’ (in which case there would be more training or a formal or informal disciplinary) and ‘colleague was following policy but customer didn’t like it.’

nettytree · 06/09/2022 16:23

I do agree that some staff are treated appallingly by tesco, but that can be said about any company. But the family that was given help in my store was done discreetly and without any publicity.

@maggiecate I agree that everyone is ready to complain. I have a rule that if I complain about something, I must also send a compliment somewhere else. 😂
