To go through my insurance

Yesterday me, my sister, friend and our DC went to our local soft play centre. They had their time and when we came out they played on the park area outside for a while.
We sat on a bench having a natter, about 2m from the car park. A grey jaguar was reversing out of his parking spot, I said to my sister and friend 'how close does he want to get to my car' he then went forward a little bit, put the car back in reverse and whack!! Reversed straight into my back bumper, I got up and shouted 'you've just hit my car' his window was fully down so he heard me, he whizzed off the car park as quick as he could without even stopping to look at the damage!!!!

He was in a fancy new jaguar I couldn't actually believe it, he's left a scrape and a crack on my rear bumper. My car isn't anything fancy only worth £3k not like his which is probably worth £15k+

I got his registration and also CCTV from the place so he can't argue he hit it but would you just let it go or claim on my insurance? I'm more miffed that he drove off without stopping knowing I had seen him do it!

Absolutely tell your insurance. You might get a slight hit in your premiums for a year or two but is the right thing to do

he could make bogus claim himself against you later on down the line that will be difficult to contest, even with CCTV, that could result in a 50/50 claim against you

@Coldilox who did you use? Some are fantastic but most are just in it for themselves, bumping up your costs and making as much margin as possible with staff that don't even understand the categorisation of vehicles or complex insurance processes. They also take some of the proceeds of the car salvage payment that you would be entitled to if you went through insurance. They also have Google searches so their phone number comes up but you searched for your ins co. I have seen people loose their car and be unable to claim on their insurance based on what incident management companies have done.

@CoraContrary I really can’t remember it was a few years ago now. My car was repaired and I never had any issue, but I have no doubt they bumped up the costs for the other side.

So if your insurance company pass you on to an accident management company, can you refuse and say you only want to deal with the insurance company directly?

If you have his registration number and CCTV evidence definitely claim. Driving off when he knew he should have stopped and swopped insurance details is disgusting. Make him sorry he did not stop OP.

@Coldilox this I'm not sure on. Usually if your insurance points you in their direction, it's because they are trusted with the outsource of the claim and work to their processes. It may just be an arm of their business or sister company.

The ones that are dodgy are essentially claim stealers and work for themselves not for you or your insurance company.

Definitely claim , also please ask the playbarn to make sure the cctv isn't over ridden incase he denies it and it has to be requested by your insurer .
