Worried my ‘bump’ has gone?

Nc12weeks · 05/09/2022 21:43

Felt very bloated / like I had a bump for weeks and now at 14 weeks, I look totally normal.

no sore boobs and much less sick. This is my first.

YABU - didn’t show until later
YANBU - bumps don’t come and go

Don't panic!

First trimester bloat goes along with things like sickness (as the placenta takes over).

Makes this stage of pregnancy worrying as there aren't really any symptoms anymore and you won't feel movements yet.

Honestly, I didn't have a bump that I could tell until around 20 weeks and then wasn't noticeable to anyone else until about 26 weeks. Very normal for first pregnancies!

So try not to stress ( I know easier said than done) put your feet up and try enjoy the relaxation while you can 😊

The best thing you can do if worried is talk to your midwife or early pregnancy unit. Was your 12 week scan ok?

I had no bump until later but did get various bouts of bloating in early pregnancy that came & went.

EndersGame · 05/09/2022 21:48

Im not going to vote on this. If you feel worried then that's reasonable.

Make an appointment with your midwife and get some clarification.

take care.

AliceW89 · 05/09/2022 21:51

I’m not sure there is an ‘Aibu’ to vote on here. For what it’s worth, I looked and felt more pregnant at 10 weeks than at 28 weeks due to the severe amount of first trimester bloat. I was completely symptomless from second trimester onwards and pretty flat until 22 ish weeks. But every pregnancy is different and you should definitely check in with your midwife.

DixonD · 05/09/2022 21:53

Sickness usually goes by this time, along with some other symptoms, like sore breasts.

I had a bump at 16 weeks I think.

But if you’re concerned, you should definitely seek proper medical advice.

Bloating in early pregnancy is crazy. On your first it’s not uncommon to not be showing yet. I am expecting my third and was still in my usual jeans at 14 weeks. On my first baby got to 7 months before needing to wear maternity clothes. The worst of the nausea has passed and the boobs definitely aren’t as sore. The second trimester is generally the easiest.

Thank you - I do have a scan booked for this week, I’m just worried. 12 week scan and NIPT were both perfect, just concerned it’s too good to be true!

Baby is so tiny at the moment that you won't have a bump. I didn't start showing until about 18 weeks when overnight none of my clothes fitted anymore!

In the first trimester I felt so bloated and uncomfortable!

Imnotreadyforthis88 · 05/09/2022 22:09

I was so bloated and uncomfortable in first trimester. Then around 16 weeks I hardly felt pregnant and didn't think I had a bump some days. Now 18 weeks and I've suddenly popped and I feel massive!

georgarina · 05/09/2022 22:12

Yep the 1st trimester 'bump' is just bloating. Then it goes away. I'm 16 weeks with my third and prefer maternity jeans but can still wear my regular ones. Good luck x

KittyEmK · 05/09/2022 22:13

By 14 weeks your placenta has taken over so it's very normal for symptoms to decrease, my sickness went at this time. If it's your first baby then you're unlikely to have a bump for another few weeks. I know it's so worrying but what you're experiencing is normal X

CheapBeersFilledwithCrocodileTears · 05/09/2022 22:15

I voted YANBU, simply because I don’t think you’re unreasonable to feel this way. It can be such a nerve-wracking time, there are still days it doesn’t feel real, and the period before you have a permanent, definable bump and fairly steady movements can be so difficult, mentally. And even when movements start, then it can be nerve-wracking every time you feel like baby has been quiet a little too long. Especially if the road to conception wasn’t the easiest thing in the world. With that said, if your 12-week scan was perfect, as was your NIPT, and you don’t have any other symptoms of a problem, then I’m sure everything is fine. But if you start to feel you have more reason to worry, if you get more symptoms, call the early pregnancy unit. It’s okay to need some reassurance sometimes.

LegoFiends · 05/09/2022 22:15

This couldn’t be more normal and it’s nothing to worry about.

Floydthebarber · 05/09/2022 22:17

The relief I felt after about 14 weeks when my breasts felt more normal, the bloating stopped and the sickness died down was lovely. Enjoy these next few months of the 2nd trimester. But if you're concerned contact your midwife, worrying won't make you feel better. Smile

DiscoBadgers · 05/09/2022 22:33

In the first trimester it’s bloating. Then there’s a weird few weeks where that goes down before you get the bump

Madmax1992 · 05/09/2022 22:34

It's bloat, baby is still absolutely tiny and your uterus is only just growing out above your pubic bone, please don't worry...completely normal xx

Christonabike37 · 05/09/2022 22:55

Bumps absolutely DO come and go! Water weight and bloating changed the size, plus baby moving around will change the size and shape.

In all honesty, at 14 weeks, your bump was probably mostly bloat from your body adapting to the increased hormones. Think ultra premenstrual. You'll feel great for a few months now and you'll grow a lovely bump then 3rd trimester hits like a tonne of bricks and your chugging antacids like they're life and asking your partner how bushy your legs are 🤣 enjoy!
