Looks like we have entered a Regency with the Queen being absent from duties and Charles acting up.

Whilst some of the royal duties have been taken on by the Prince of Wales, it is not a regency, nothing like that for George III or say for Louis XIV in France when he first came to the throne.

I don't think we will have one as the Queen is mentally sound, just physically limited.

I agree actually op.

Charles has already deputised at the State Opening of Parliament, and both he and William (and I think Anne) have deputised at investitures on several occasions. If this can happen without a formal Regency, I’m sure Charles taking a few more minor engagements won’t constitute one.

She isn't absent from duties, she's just not doing them in BP. It has been the case for a few years that the physical stuff - investitures, visits and the like - would be done by the Prince of Wales and other members of the RF due to her increasing age.

I'm having a proper laugh at some posters thinking "acting up" means misbehaving in this context!

The other senior royals have always done investitures. Nowt new there.

Her mind is Sharp her body maybe failing though 😢

While she has mental capacity we don't need a regent. She can undertake all the essential duties from her bed or via councillors of state if she wishes.

Queen Victoria didn't appear in public for ages, she performed her royal duties from Balmoral, Windsor and Osborne for several years. Three years after Albert's death she was persuaded to make a brief personal appearance in London. It was five years before she attended a state opening of parliament and she rarely visited Buckingham Palace. No need for a regency though.
