To say this was not my fault?

Neighbours DD still lives at home and looks extremely young. They have just moved in so I don't know the family. When she spoke she also sounded like she had a very broad accent which I could not distinguish. I asked her where she was from and she said she has always lived here and looked embarrassed when I said she sounded really different to anyone living round here. Then I asked if she was at college or uni, turns out she is 36 so my age more or less (I thought she was 20-21). I didn't mention the age thing but my face must have given it away as she looked embarrassed and upset again.
Aibu to say these are honest mistakes?

Ouch!
To say she doesn’t sound like anyone round here - YABU and very rude!

Asking if at uni or college - nosy and presumptuous!!

I look very, very young for my age and it's a bit of a pain to have people questioning you all the time.

Also, if you don't know the family, why is any of that any of your business?

And they weren't mistakes. You didn't accidentally ask the (nosy) questions.

For not knowing them you went in there with clumpy shoes.

Take baby steps before passing comment.

Was just trying to be friendly but it obviously backfired
