Does anyone know when the new WhatsApp privacy settings are coming in?

I am waiting to be able to change my settings so that no-one can see when I am online. Best privacy update ever IMO! Does mean can also no longer spy on a partner we might be suspicious of though haha. Yes I have trust issues but am currently single.

Anyway, I would just like to be able to be online writing and reading messages without other friends wondering why my status is online, I find it pressured and anxiety-inducing.

Anyone know when the new feature kicks in?

Hmm maybe it's still being rolled out which is annoying but hopefully it's available soon

Yes I can confirm is does still show 'typing', but does not show 'online' anymore. You only know that the person you're talking to is online when it says 'typing'.

I'm the generation up from you and I also couldn't give a toss who sees if I'm online either. I also don't care if someone sees me leave a group chat, although in practice I just ignore them a lot of the time.

So which subset is it who are unable to say "just bloody wait" to people nagging for updates? I don't think its age related - possibly stalkers and wet lettuces?

@OP I'm totally with you. Can't wait for this new feature to arrive, I'll probably use whattsapp a lot more.

This is the version I'm on. Funny it doesn't list being able to hide online status as a new feature, I've also scrolled back through previous updates up to 3 months and it's not stated anywhere.

But the bottom does say the latest update will be rolled out over the coming weeks so here's hoping!

It dosent worry me if people know when I'm online, what annoys me is so and so has left the group. We don't all need to know do we. Wasn't that changing?

Actually I was challenging some of the ageism in the assumptions but don't let that get in the way of your own superior stance.

I have both usual and business WhatsApp, the normal one hasn't changed but the business one has. It's the regular I wanted it for!

Whatsweb is very useful and takes seconds to activate. Install on your phone from Google play store ........

Mines not changed but I don't want/need to hide it anyway.

I updated today just to have this feature..... but it isn't there.

How half the people on TikTok have it though I am not sure.

It's there, but you have to opt in at least one contact who can see your status. It's a case of 'share status with everyone', 'share status with my contacts', 'share status with no-one except x

you already can leave a group. only the admin gets notified now.

I remembered to check again today, finally new update means being able to hide when online. Here's a screengrab if it helps anyone else toggle their settings. If you have 'Last Seen' set to Nobody then you can choose 'same as Last Seen' to ensure nobody sees when you're 'Online'.

(Im not really interesting enough to be 'cloak and dagger', but on the other hand I know it can stress me out focusing on read receipts and and seeing when someone is online, so my preference is just to limit the stress and not have those settings on)
