To worry that the dental hygienist caused me a receding gum?

Went to a standard scale and polish on Thursday. She wasn't my usual hygienist and her cleaning was quite aggressive, when I rinsed my mouth there was some blood too (more that what I was used to).
Yesterday I noticed some kind of sensation in my top central incisor and when I looked in the mirror I noticed that the gum on it is higher and the tooth is more "exposed" than the other incisor.
I never noticed it before and now getting really worried that the forceful cleaning procedure has caused it, and that gum once receded will never get back to normal.
I'm worried that if I go back to the dentist they will say I'm making it up, as it's not that noticeable...

I can't see how that would happen tbh.

Dental hygienists can’t make your gums recede. Only three things can- poor oral hygiene or genetic causes or certain medications.

It’s impossible for your hygienist to have caused your gum to recede. Healthy gums don’t bleed, so the fact you experienced a lot of bleeding suggests inflammation was present. Far more likely that your hygienist has done an excellent job and caused swelling to go down, exposing more tooth than you could see previously.

I had something similar a few years ago. In retrospect, the hygienist’s work probably just cleared some plaque or something (blergh) that looked less bad than the bare gums but in actuality was very bad. I don’t know. Since then my gums are much better though. Just wanted to say that I have had something similar I’m sure a dentist can explain better…

Interestingly, I have had a lot of work done on my teeth at dental hospital - deep cleaning underneath the gum line under local anaesthetic . After a couple of sessions with a trainee, I commented to the supervisor that I thought my gums had receded further and she commented that can be the case - she gave me the reason but I can't quite remember what she said now .

I also understand that over brushing can lead to receding gums .

It's likely they cleared some plaque away that was there.

@schoolsoutforever I'm glad it got better for you

@shinynewapple22 Did your gums come back to normal later?

No - but I imagine mine were in a far worse state than yours to start with . Although I think certain actions have exacerbated it, I think my problems are probably hereditary.
