Or is the Zara website virtually unusable?

i just wanted to buy a few basics for the autumn/winter and it is utterly painful trying to use the Zara website to do so. You can’t order by price, the way it lists items is weird, it’s really slow… it’s just terrible! Do they really do so well from in store purchases that they don’t have to try or am I somehow technologically inept?

It's awful. Seconded only to the Range website.

VanishingViolet · 04/09/2022 08:51

Popped into the large Zara in London. The queue for the changing room was huge so I bought myself a set of bangles, plus I haven’t a clue what a size 12 would be, something daft like XXXXXL!

I bought DS a couple of sweatshirts in the past (after spending a week navigating the website) with those reversible sequin images, they were really good quality and lasted.

But yep, to get to the OP’s point, absolutely agree, the website is shoite!

raindon · 04/09/2022 09:03

It's just such a weird shopping experiencea

SparkyBlue · 04/09/2022 09:04

I do like my clothes and there is a decent sized Zara near me but I never set foot in it. The sizing just puts me off so I feel it's too much of an effort. My poor dad is in the early stages of Parkinson's(and a few other health conditions ) and has lost lots of weight. We had a good giggle as recently my sister bought him clothes from Zara menswear and they were fabulous on him. So we did have a good laugh saying that's what it takes to look good in Zara

Mumspair1 · 04/09/2022 09:05

There's alot of video showing Zara vs Shien and similar if not exact clothing. Also, wtf with the models that they use. All look like part of some horror/zombie show. It puts you off imagining what the clothes look like on you.

rosesareredandpink · 04/09/2022 09:08

Clothes are great but website is awful to use, I don’t bother anymore! Plus Zara and Mango clothes are more expensive now due to Brexit.

ladyvimes · 04/09/2022 09:12

I have some lovely bits from Zara but it is so hot and miss and their sizing! Oh my god! I’m a 12-14 and wanted a pair of work trousers. Their biggest size is an XL and even that was a bit tight!!
And never have I been into a shop where the staff are so miserable. No one smiled the entire time I was there. I appreciate being retail staff is tough (I’ve done it) but the next shop I went in (Fatface) the staff were lovely and friendly.

Head of Digital for an ecomm brand here. This is precisely what happens when the "brand marketing" team ignore the ecommerce and digital experts.

Happens all the time. Sadly. Will be losing them millions but clearly someone's ego is more important 😂

YANBU I've got web usability and user centred design qualifications and that website would be a great example of how to lose customers and alienate people. I accessed it on my tablet and it's an appalling experience

  • images randomly flash across the screen
  • menus don't work, can't find anything
  • menu options aren't useful
  • usability for accessibility needs / disability is non-existent.
  • contrived, unworkable, frustrating

clearly built by some bright spark from The Apprentice who thinks they're creating a unique online experience- nope, nul points, you're FIRED!

Absolutely!!

RampantIvy · 04/09/2022 09:19

I have never found anything I want to buy in Zara. The shop is like a jumble sale and I can't be bothered to rummage.

I don't understand the hype that means there are always queues to get in.

Also, DD tried to apply for a job there, and they told her they wouldn't employ someone with brightly coloured hair. She would have to dye it blonde or brown. I think it was pink at the time.

Treacletoots · 04/09/2022 09:21

@daisychain01 how about some lovely grey(ed out) CTA buttons please?

I cannot believe how many times I've had this argument with "designers' who know nothing about UX. 😂

Grin

yy, just for that nice added frustration for entertainment value!

Remainiac · 04/09/2022 09:38

Agree with a pp, Zara in Spain (Mallorca is mine) is much better. Totally different in-store experience, keener pricing, nicer ranges. Same with Mango. My local UK store is hell on earth. I never buy online for all the aforementioned reasons.

rnsaslkih · 04/09/2022 09:41

I wouldn’t order from Zara. They make returns very difficult. I ordered from them once recently as a guest and would never do so again due to the difficulty returning one item. The returns process is so difficult that there are websites (not Zara) that tell you how to do it. I still couldn’t do it. I donated the item to a charity shop who were thrilled with it. But never again.

mycatisannoying · 04/09/2022 09:48

I have an irrational hatred of the place!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/09/2022 09:54

It's awful, for all the reasons stated so far. I do have a Zara near me, which is staffed by the rudest people imaginable, and is scruffy and like a jumble sale. I don't bother.

Shortpoet · 04/09/2022 09:58

There’s a store near me but I don’t go in. The lighting is so yellow I can’t tell what colour anything is. Everything has a sickly yellow tinge so I can’t pick out anything that suits me.

ihatesoaps · 04/09/2022 10:01

OrangeKettle · 04/09/2022 08:43

Others have said their staff are rude. This is what I have found every single time my daughters have taken me in there. Why is that? They’re the most miserable people! (The staff, not my daughters!)

Yes! Every single Zara I've been in the staff are just so sullen and rude! H&M which is bang opposite my local Zara have such delightful friendly staff too!

ChutneyVirgin · 04/09/2022 10:03

Use the app

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/09/2022 11:20

rocketfromthecrypt · 04/09/2022 08:06

The site is terrible, the staff in the physical shops are rude. God forbid you have a question, or are over a size12. The clothes are almost all horrible quality. Yet people rave about it. I think it's like running a marathon - something you have to endure in order to impress.

About 15 years ago I asked a Zara sales assistant to explain their sizing. She looked me up and down with disdain and said "we don't make clothes for people as big as you". I was a neat size 14 at the time.

allthebikes · 04/09/2022 13:17

It's awful. As is the app. We use it at work as an example of what not to do for good UX design. Style over substance.
