To ask what is the pettiest thing you’ve done?

My petty crown that I wear with pride is when confronted (or rear fronted?) by a car driving up my arse, I slow down and if they don’t back off I continue to drive as slow as legally possible just to make a point.

Even if you haven’t acted on it, what’s the pettiest thing you’ve considered doing?

Why didn't rude customers who ordered a salad with a diet coke figure into your Venn diagram?

Because they never did. This was in the 90s, before this particular fast food chain had salads on the menu.

Giving rude customers full fat coke instead of diet coke is a 'thing' amongst fast food workers. Or at least, it was when I was doing it. I remember having a conversation with my colleagues about it, they all did the same thing. We just didn't like people being rude to us. And it was funny; petty, but funny as hell for some reason.

Johnnysgirl · 06/09/2022 16:46

So many nutters working in fast food outlets 😳
The utter neck of someone being so enraged at a customer's order that they'd deliberately substitute it for something else!
Pathetic.

You would appear to struggle with reading comprehension.

Our petty coke / diet coke substitution wheeze was contingent upon whether or not the customer was rude to us. Not upon the content of their order.

The fact that several posters have made this mistake says more about them, and their feelings about their fast food orders, than it does about me.

I'm also slightly baffled that people seem more upset about the prospect of getting a slightly different form of carbonated, chemical packed drink than they are about the rights of fast food workers to be treated with basic respect by customers.

No I'm more disgusted with with you rubbing your dirty fingernail in someone's food ,why would anyone sabotage somebodies food?

We were once woken by a drunken lad that had misdialled, calling us at 2:30 in the morning. Thankfully they didn’t wake our young children. They woke up at about 6:30 and we were so tired. DH picked up the phone, dialled 1471 to get the number and called them back, he woke them up, they sounded ropey, DH just said to the sleepy head “it’s bloody annoying when someone calls and wakes you up isn’t it!” before hanging up.

iklboo · 06/09/2022 19:56

I worked in a local outlet of an extremely famous and widespread fast food chain. It was very common for people to come in and order the largest, most fattening combination of items on the menu (think extra large bacon double cheeseburger with extra large fried and extra large onion rings) and then loudly, carefully stipulate that they wanted a DIET coke, NOT a full fat one.

I prefer the taste of the diet version, but I'm always polite when asking for it. Would I have incurred your 'full fat' wrath?

WeeOrcadian · 06/09/2022 21:09

@britneyisfree @Johnnysgirl she's the person who gave birth to me, not someone who donated her eggs to me.
She isn't my mother, and she hasn't been for a long time, she merely gave birth to me, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I could have made that part clearer.

Oh, right Confused. Maybe you should have. Egg donor has a very specific meaning, which precludes your biological mother.

If my DP has done something to annoy me I wait until he is in the shower and then run a cold tap for a short blast. This makes the shower water get hotter. Not enough to scald but enough to make him turn the temperature down which by that time the cold tap is off he's having a much cooler shower.

My friends does this to her fella if he's annoyed her 😂

dentydown · 07/09/2022 07:43

So every time my son and I walked past a charity shop, she would walk past us and listen in to the conversation. I didn’t tell her, she overheard and wanted to deny me the item I admired. Basically she was trying to be petty. I was trying to see if I was going mad or not because she would by things I pointed out to my son that I liked.

I was dating a guy. I got a lecture at his parents place that I wasn't allowed to turn the lights on as every time I was over apparently the spotlight out back was turned on. Up to that point, I'd never touched the light switch. I innocently asked which switch was the spotlight, so I didn't accidentally turn it on. Yep, every visit after that I would flick that bloody spot light on. They were weird people - I got in trouble for getting the bath mat wet when I got out of the shower, reading the paper etc

Maybe they just didn’t strangers in their home?

My Mum and I have had a strained relationship for a long time.

One day I popped in as I went past her house but she wasn't home, she lives on an acre and has a long front yard which happened to be pretty soft from all the rain we had had. As I left I purposely spun my wheel so that it left a massive set of wheel tracks in her yard.

She just assumed I'd gotten a bit stuck in the soft ground Grin

So mean

You could make a diabetic person very very unwell with this little trick.

I fully understand that this feels like a small and petty win when someone is being rude to you, but substituting full sugar coke when you've been asked for diet could technically (although granted not likely) kill someone. You could make them very unwell though.

I do the same with a family member. But I use the term mongrel rather than crossbreed and tell her how nice it is of her to settle for a dog that's not pedigree so the poor thing can have a home. Chuck in an MN head tilt and its golden.

I actually do like all dogs but she's quite stuck up and tries to show off her "designer" dog and claims that it's pedigree because it's parents were pedigree. Sorry love, it doesn't work like that.

Glad you like mine - she hated me as everyone on the floor liked me and i knew everything so relied on me heavily. She would comment sometimes as it was a small office oh your making a lot of noise and would smile and say just following the clear desk policy :)
Another stupid thing she did was pull me up on my expenses, i had to visit certain contractors every month, it was quicker for me to drive from my house, plus expenses were calculated from where you left so I got paid less as apposed from leaving the factory ( didn't bother me, i got more time in bed in morning ) and meant i was back in office around lunchtime. She didn't like this ( and also too stupid to see it was costing less) so said i had to come to the office and drive from the office to them. This meant that i was getting more expenses but also meant i wasnt back in the office till after 3 so less time to do my work then which caused her grief. Finance manager who second signed my expenses hated her too so said nothing ( He was one the only nice one ). It was about 6 months later when head office was over it was brought up a huge increase in expenses ( I put them in weekly when she was busy or going out the door to sign so she never took any notice of amount ) - She didn't know what to say to say and Finance guy said Wexone was only following your instructions and i wasnt going to question you on it. Think it was one of the things they used to get rid of her . Still see her every so often in town waddling down the steet - she has put on about 5 stone in weight and heard she has had like 20 jobs in the space of 10 years

I love it when people get what they genuinely deserve. Doesn't happen often enough.

To be fair I can see this happening in certain places. I'm in a small village with a fantastic charity shop and a very small main street. I pass the same people nearly every day. Quite often bump into the same people inside the charity shop when I'm in too. Maybe that's it?

GhostsInSnow · 07/09/2022 12:43

I worked in a small shop that was just around the corner from my home.

Manager was an arse and completely lazy, used to take himself upstairs and nap for the afternoon or read a book etc whilst I ran the shop, he did the sum total of nothing.

I had a chair behind the counter I could use in quiet periods (I have joint issues) but one day, trying to throw his weight around he took my chair and said with a smirk, 'new rule, we stand for our shifts'. Obviously this didn't affect him as he was asleep upstairs in an armchair in the stock room. DH had said repeatedly I should leave and we didn't need the money but I stuck it out.

I didn't let him get to me until one day he was extremely rude to me in front of a customer, to which I silently picked up my coat from behind the counter and without a word I left.

The set up was such that the store was owned by someone who had another store in the next town. She rarely dealt with ours other than to pick up takings on a Friday, of course this job was about the only thing the manager deigned himself to do. I got home and called the owner.
I politely thanked her for my employment, told her unfortunately I'd left, my reasons why and said she should probably go and retrieve the hours of CCTV footage from both shop floor and stock room and see what her manager actually does.

He was gone within the week. Owner decided to sell the premises and shop closed down. It's now a thriving little pet shop.

I worked on till in a fast food place in a mall. There was another fast food place next to us. It was quiet, we had no customers but I could hear a customer shouting at the next door place "doesn't anyone speak any fucking English here?". He'd obviously gone off in a huff and moments later was standing in front of me.

Him, gesturing next door:"None of them can speak any English".

Me: "Qué?"

🤣🤣🤣

Oh I though of one of my own.

Cheating ex loved a suit. He had one that he'd gone on about being special as it had four buttons down the arm not 3. I removed one from each sleeve. Then I decided to do each one of his suits and removed a button from them all.

Then I took all his favourite polo Ralph lauren T shirts and used a cotton bud to dip bleach in different places and left everything perfectly hung up. He was SO confused 🤣

I like the quiet, evil, ingenuity of this one!
