Name changed for this as live in this village. Our village under 10’s boys football team has been sponsored by Hooters !!

AIBU to think it is completely inappropriate ? I just can’t understand which bright spark thought it was a good idea !!

Well I reckon you want to find out what genius it was, because:

Hooters = drooling sexists

That's no naice village

Jesus - is the rest of the area this lowbrow. Tits and wings for boys. Have you thought about moving??

Haha, I'm local to the city (only hooters restaurant in the country, lucky us) and that area is naice.

YANBU though OP, hooters is sexist.

The village is nice. The Hooters is in Nottingham city centre.

That’s the thing, it’s an affluent village!! Not that wealth can always buy class !!
Thankfully the girls football team is a 1000s times better and is sponsored by a local financial advisor who has given the advertising space to a fantastic charitable foundation set by a local double gold medalist Paralympic champion that aims to provide sporting opportunities for those with disabilities!! Far more appropriate.
There is also a fantastic team for teenagers and young adults with Downs Syndrome so thankfully there is still a lot of good in the village.
Whoever runs the boys team could learn a lot about what’s appropriate from the girls team and DS team.

I think its pretty clear that wealth doesn't buy class if the best that such naice village team decides this was the best decision!

Anyway, I'm not sure it wouldn't be a bit embarrassing for the boys, to play another team and have your chest covered with "hooters". I think the piss taking from the other team will be epic...

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/09/2022 16:21

That's a good point Grin

BlusteryLake · 02/09/2022 16:24

I would not be sending my ten year old boy out wearing a shirt with alternative words for big tits emblazoned on it, and nor would I be hanging it on my washing line every week. What the hell were they thinking?

LexMitior · 02/09/2022 16:26

Alternatives -

Tasty Melons
Funbag FC
Mammary Glands R OK
Glistening Bristols

TheOrigRights · 02/09/2022 16:35

Ipswich Town was sponsored by Magical Vegas betting company. The junior strips did not have their logo on because it was deemed inappropriate. Surely the same thought should go into how appropriate grassroots sponsorship deals are.

The women are hired based on appearance. Is that what you want to teach your children?

Would you be proud if your daughter came home thrilled she'd got a job there?

83DanishMum · 02/09/2022 16:59

This is shocking! What are you going to do about it OP? I think a petition and a well publicised campaign are in order...

Maybe there's a famous footballer (lioness or a feminist male pundit?) who'll support your cause?

What a valid point! In the year we have women and football in a mainstream arena it gets blown apart by women being demeaned in football. Guess it really is a man's game after all .....

CantFindTheBeat · 02/09/2022 17:40

Of course it's not appropriate.

Hooters is famous for sexualising women - and in particular, encouraging sexualised women to serve men.

The football club boss who allowed this is clearly not a feminist.

Great scandal & publicity for Hooters though. Well done them.

gogohmm · 02/09/2022 17:42

Yanbu hated that place when I lived in the USA - short skirts and skimpy tops, all with massive blonde hair and heavy makeup.

Can't believe they opened in the U.K.

orangeisthenewpuce · 02/09/2022 17:55

I agree that it's inappropriate.

balalake · 02/09/2022 18:10

Inappropriate, bad enough the company exists and people spend money there, definitely not for a football team's shirt.

carefullycourageous · 02/09/2022 18:13

That is inappropriate and grim.

I think I would find an alternative for my kid, I couldn't go along with it.

What has been the general reaction from other parents?

Indiaorigin · 02/09/2022 18:34

Yanbu. Quite likely an older player or sibling will do is Google it. Website isn’t great and they probably probably ignore the need articles but the images section objectified the waiting staff.

I’d be more worried about an older sister seeing it and thinking that their parents agree with the ethos of the company because they are allowing younger brother to play in a team sponsored by them.

it’s not easy for organisers though. If hooters is no good will people that object sponsor or find a sponsor or would the team fold?

SolasAnla · 02/09/2022 18:52

I thinks that is shows that the staff in any childrens organisation who accept this money for an under 18's game has a gaping big hole in is safeguarding ethos.

It has the same energy as if they accepted a cigarette or alcohol sponsorship.

UWhatNow · 02/09/2022 19:16

Freedomfighters · 02/09/2022 15:09

Why does it matter?

Further objectification of women with young impressionable boys. It’s absolutely fucking disgraceful.

NeelyOHara1 · 02/09/2022 19:34

YANBU. Perhaps it's a tacky publicity stunt?

Another local here. I can't believe they have done this. Nottinghamshire FA has now put out a statement saying it breaks FA rules. I am sick of hearing that Hooters is a 'family restaurant'. It's name literally means 'tits', its logo has a pair of tits in it and the girls that serve are scantily clad. Each to their own but it isn't a good message for the boys nor the girls teams. They should be ashamed of themselves. I have heard a lot of press today about how it is hard to get sponsorship. Not in Burton Joyce and surrounding football teams it isn't, that is a nonsense.

wouldthatbeworse · 02/09/2022 21:05

YANBU. I’d have real trouble with my kid playing in that shirt

Choconut · 02/09/2022 21:28

That is really grim, I didn't even know there was one in the UK. Talk about objectification of women. Mind you in the US dads take their kids there for birthday parties, but misogyny is far worse there I think.

AppropriateNot · 02/09/2022 21:49

FA says Hooters of Nottingham cannot sponsor under-10s football team www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-62769416

Thankfully the FA have stepped in and told them to cease the sponsorship deal. Well done to the FA.
After the wonderful achievement of the Lionesses , this seemed a real kick in the teeth !! So glad the FA have stepped in .
