To think sonic cat deterrents should be banned

Aside from the fact that they don't deter cats, children and young adults can hear them, and lots of people get headaches from them. I don't understand why they are still allowed. I currently can't go more than half way down my front garden without setting off the one in the garden of the neighbour opposite. They aren't particularly friendly people and if it is pointed out to them will probably just shrug and say they can't hear it. Which they won't be able to as they are probably in their mid 70s. If I had more time I would consider dumping a load of junk in my garden just to annoy them. Also, of all the things to retain as I get older, I get to still hear sonic cat deterrents? Really?

YANBU my neighbours had one for a year and I pleaded with them to sort out the constant ticking noise. It drove me crazy and was at all hours of the day. They only time they went in their garden was to mow the lawn or put the washing out. They told me they needed it to keep cats, birds and foxes out of the garden. Miserable twats.

As a cat owner and a passionate gardener I can. Understand people's absolutely desperate attempts to stop cats shitting

Hate the bloody things, I can hear them very clearly as can my husband and daughter.

I recently discovered a cat has been using the border on my drive as it’s daily toilet. As it blends in with the bark, the only reason I noticed is because it’s that full of shit that it’s now crapping on top of the plants.

I'm another that can hear them. They give me tinnitus too, so I'm fucked once I've heard one. No escape from the noise.

I genuinely think I would break in and smash it if my neighbours had one and wouldn't listen to reason.

FancyFelix · 01/09/2022 21:27

But I can see why they’re sold: bastarding other people’s bastarding cats crapping all over your garden drives you to try anything.

This. Fucking hate cats. I've tried everything, including sonic deterrents.

I'm in my 40's and hear the one very close to my children's school when I drop them in and pick them up, it's an awful noise!

I have them in the back garden. My DD and I don't hear them.

Keeps the bastards out of my garden which they were using as a toilet.

I agree with you that they’re horrible things but until you can convince all the cat owners to keep their pets in their own gardens, people have a valid reason to use them.

This.
