Inspired by a chat with a friend after struggling back from the corner shop yet again with the mountains of stuff my family can't survive without. My gran in the 70s used to have a little shopping trolley on wheels she'd take with her. You never see them anymore but what a brilliant idea. They sell them in Amazon, I'm going to buy one and be like my gran only without the curlers and housecoat 🤣
What else do you remember your DPs/DGPs use I can be inspired to invest in?

He can probably get dessert trauma counselling at school.

Thistleinthenight · 04/09/2022 22:44

I'd like a shopping trolley which folds up. If you go for a walk first to get some steps in, as I often do, then the trolley can be used at the market/supermarket on the way home. I end up struggling home exhausted all too often, loaded up, and wishing I'd driven.

Thistleinthenight · 04/09/2022 22:46

And rinse jelly mould in cold water, then put the jelly mix in. Slips out later.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/09/2022 22:54

I'd completely lost the thread of this...erm...thread, found myself wondering why @Thistleinthenight was suddenly talking trolleys Grin

I'm very invested in rabbit jelly. Commiserations to the child. But you can't rush art.

MercurialMonday · 05/09/2022 08:51

@Thistleinthenight - they are out there -

foldable or better- shoulder bag

CaptainBarbosa · 05/09/2022 19:33

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 05/09/2022 19:38

Good to hear he survived the unmoulding process!

CaptainBarbosa · 05/09/2022 19:44

x2boys · 05/09/2022 19:45

My mum used to mix jelly evaporated milk and call it blancmange, was this a thing ?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2022 19:46

Yep, blancmange was a thing.

Woohoo!

Beautiful. Artistic, even. Reminds me of Marc Quinn's work, Self.

midlifecrash · 05/09/2022 19:52

Hooray!

CaptainBarbosa · 05/09/2022 19:57

I dipped the mould in a bowl of boiled water, to loosen him off. Not too long like 3 seconds!

He slid out like a dream 😂 thanks 80 year old nan for that tip!

DS went "wow" and then drove a spoon all but immediately in to him. He was nice whilst he lasted lol.

Needmorelego · 05/09/2022 20:00

Well done @CaptainBarbosa !

ShinyPikachu · 05/09/2022 22:13

That's a wonderful looking jelly rabbit. I'll have to ask DM if she still has her rabbit mould. Ours was an orange one and the jelly was always pride of place at our childhood birthday parties. Grin

The jelly mixed with evaporated milk is a slightly different texture to blancmange. I think you whip up either the tinned milk or the jelly and it has a texture more like mousse . Used to love that but hate blancmange .

We called it fluff!

I was so disappointed when I realised the jars of Fluff in the supermarket were a totally different thing.

Natsku · 06/09/2022 06:25

Oooo nice jelly rabbit!!

No way, need to dig out as you wash as you don't always peel potatoes but you always wash them! Or you peel them after cooking.
I don't think my peeler has a pointy bit actually.

Something like this?

I've still got an ancient metal mincer, which unlike every other one I’ve seen, is hinged and opens for cleaning. It's got a few different cutters, including one that has “peanut butter cutter” in raised letters. It works well.

I have a Betty clothes dryer thingy, use a a teapot with leaf tea, have a luridly coloured shopping trolley and a jelly mould (sadly, not a rabbit)

What I really hanker after is a hand operated washing machine, like the one that some friends had decades ago, when they bought a house with no electricity.
It was like a big galvanised tub with a handle on the lid which you turned.
With one of those and a clip on mangle, I would be set for the energy crisis.

I'd rather lose my cooker than my washer dryer 😱

What a bargain, and I dare say one could use it for salad spinning?
And making pop-corn,
And tombola,
And, by the look of it, with a bit of modification, an air-raid siren.
It just goes on giving...

(I think I should be in Marketing)
