Pass the parcel

What can I put in a pass the parcel for one year olds? Yes, I know, they won't care and I shouldn't bother as they're too young but I really want to do one so need some ideas please!

Are you doing "Lucky's Dad's Rules" (bluey reference to old rules of just one present for the winner) or the new fangled rules where everyone is a winner?

PainsandAches · 31/08/2022 20:35

Yeah this sounds like a massive waste of time OP

At one they'll most likely just rip the packaging off even if it's not their turn

Jalepenojello · 31/08/2022 20:35

Teether?

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 31/08/2022 20:37

Nothing. They can’t sit and rip off packaging. Why not donate some toys to a refuge for women instead?

scrivette · 31/08/2022 20:37

Musical instruments, books, plastic spoons, bath toys

44PumpLane · 31/08/2022 20:37

Small wooden toy like a Lanka Kade wooden animal or a wooden car with big chunky wheels suitable 12m+

You beat me to it!

AYearOfCushions · 31/08/2022 20:39

Baby books or little maracas/jingle bell toys. Maybe with packs of those baby strawberry smoothie melts.

NerrSnerr · 31/08/2022 20:41

I wouldn't bother, it'll be chaos as they'll not want to sit, they'll be crying, toddling or crawling away and distracted and you'll end up with a circle of parents feeling daft.

Pass the parcel is chaos with children who know what the bloody hell is going on so don't prolong the agony!!

First thing I thought of too!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/08/2022 20:43

A little ball? Max 5 layers, only one winner. No one's s got time for soft rules where every one wins.

BarkylLoner · 31/08/2022 20:44

I really don't think 1 year olds will get the concept of passing it in to next 1 year old. I foresee tears and fights!

luxxlisbon · 31/08/2022 20:44

It’s a lot more than “not caring” though, they literally will not get the concept and will not be able to play.
Developmentally they aren’t anywhere near being able to share so giving a 1 year old something exciting looking and then taking it away and giving it to the child next to them will be absolutely carnage.

buzzbuzzybuzz · 31/08/2022 20:47

At 1 they won't get the idea

MiddleAgedTraveller · 31/08/2022 21:00

Just play roll a ball round (sitting in a circle)

Thatiswild · 31/08/2022 21:02

At age 3 or 4 you’ll be lucky to get them to play it, YABU but if you must a ball in the middle and no other prizes is a good idea.

Thatiswild · 31/08/2022 21:03

As in, at 1 there will be no chance!

watcherintherye · 31/08/2022 21:06

Why are you so set on ‘pass the parcel’ for one year olds. op? Are you going to film and post on YouTube? Grin

CanofCant · 31/08/2022 21:26

I went to a two year olds birthday party where they played pass the parcel and it was horrible and awkward and full of crying toddlers having to be placated by their parents. A total waste of time for everyone and really stressful too. I was surprised they thought it was a good idea tbh.

Fingers crossed it won't be so bad with one year olds.

CanofCant · 31/08/2022 21:28

But to answer your question, I'd put a mini packet of chocolate buttons in each layer.

MargaretThursday · 31/08/2022 22:09

I did it at my 1yos party (20 years ago). Most of the guests were aged between 1yo and 3yo, but they managed it with parent help. We did it so they had paper to rip off, and a beanbag in each layer, with a big basket in the middle that they could throw the beanbag into. We made sure that it only went about 2-3 children before the music stopped so there wasn't time to get bored. They did tend to all help for the opening each layer, and some lost interest and just crawled/toddled around while the others did it.
You need a bit of patience and realising that they don't do it as expected (and placating older ones who are horrified that "the rules" aren't being followed) but it was fun organised chaos.

The worst I saw was when the mum put a big box with lots of toys in the middle to share out. The parcel was too big in the early rounds for the little ones to hold, so they lost interest. The older ones who expected a toy every round either lost interest or burst into tears when they didn't get one. Then the child got all the toys in the last round and all the ones who didn't win cried; followed by the child who thought they'd won them all crying when it was explained he needed to share.🤣🤣🤣 It was just that they had different expectations.

This is why I stay on MN. These loons never fail to amuse me 😀😀😀

Snugglemonkey · 31/08/2022 22:19

I think they are too wee for it and it will just be a nightmare.
